History from the landing beaches to Falaise

The landing beaches are associated with a specific date: on June 6, 1944, the Allies landed here at the start of Operation Overlord. In Bayeux, attention turns to a different historical work. The embroidered Bayeux Tapestry is a unique historical account that documents medieval life, including the 11th century. At 68.80 meters long, 50 centimeters high and weighing nearly 350 kilograms, it is also impressive in scale. In Caen, the Abbaye aux Hommes was founded around 1060 by William the Conqueror and Matilda; William is buried there. NOMAD Car line 121 is relevant for getting between Bayeux and the coast. It connects Bayeux with Courseulles-sur-Mer and serves Arromanches-les-Bains and other coastal towns. Bayeux also has a connection to NOMAD rail services at the train station. Routes and stops may change, so check the current timetable before travelling. The VéloWest Normandy route from the D-Day beaches towards Mont-Saint-Michel also passes through Bayeux.
