When planning a trip to Moyaux, you can choose from several highlights: the Foire aux ânes in March, trails around the village and through the countryside, and local architecture. You can plan your stay around an event date, walks or the village’s buildings.

Foire aux ânes in March

The Foire aux ânes has been held in Moyaux for more than 30 years, every third Saturday in March. If you want to plan your trip around this date, check the programme for the relevant year in advance.

The programme includes donkey parades, storytelling walks, Norman dances, conferences and donkey rides. Individual events may vary from one edition to the next. A farmers’ market is also part of the fair; its selection may also vary between editions.

Trails and walks

Rando-Moyaux offers trails around the village and through the countryside. You can follow them on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or on a donkey. Moyaux Sentiers & Nature also organises walks three to four times a month.

The schedules differ: the Foire aux ânes takes place on a fixed date in March, while walks are organised three to four times a month. The Chemin des chaumières starts at the church car park in Moyaux and is marked in green. Along the way, you can see a handsome 19th-century house and two thatched cottages.

Church and architecture

Saint-Germain Church in Moyaux has a 12th-century tower topped by an eight-sided spire. The spire twists upwards and appears crooked from every angle. The church also houses a very elongated oil painting: a copy of Philippe de Champaigne’s “Christ in the Tomb”.

Half-timbered houses typical of the Pays d’Auge architectural style stand around Moyaux village square. A presbytery in Moyaux, behind a church, is worth seeing. The tower is notable for its 12th-century date, while the half-timbered houses reflect the regional building style of the Pays d’Auge. They have a visible timber frame with filled-in spaces between the beams, creating a clear pattern of individual panels across the façade.
