If you’re looking for hotels for a stay in Pennedepie, your travel interests can help you decide where to start: the coastal forest and beach, the Church of Saint-Georges, or a visit to Manoir d’Apreval each offer a different focus. The tides determine whether swimming is possible at the beach; the manor’s picnic offering is seasonal. You can take these conditions into account when planning your stay.

Coastal Forest, Beach and Tides

Bois du Breuil near Pennedepie is a coastal forest acquired by the Conservatoire du littoral. The protected area covers 120.2 hectares and is open to the public. If you’re planning a visit, check the conditions on site.

Pennedepie Beach is part of the Seine Estuary and Lower Seine Marshes Natura 2000 site. At low tide, it serves as a feeding ground for wading birds. The beach trail leads into the heart of the Seine estuary and invites you to discover marine fauna and flora along the coast. Swimming is only possible at low tide because the beach disappears at high tide. So check the tides before planning a swim. Access via Rue de la Mer is on foot only; follow local guidance about access.

Church of Saint-Georges

The Church of Saint-Georges stands out for its imposing tower, topped by a slender bell tower. The contrast between the tower and the bell tower defines its exterior appearance.

The church is reached by 23 stone steps. Inside, you can admire the stained-glass windows. This means you can focus your visit both on the striking exterior architecture and on the windows inside the church.

Manoir d’Apreval: Orchards and Production

Manoir d’Apreval has 25 hectares of organically farmed standard apple orchards. They produce pure apple juice, three cuvées of cider, Pommeau, as well as various blends and vintage bottlings of Calvados Pays d’Auge. Guided tours trace the process from apple to juice extraction, fermentation and distillation, and on to the 18th-century half-timbered cellars. A tasting is included with the tour. The sequence of steps provides a guiding thread for the visit.

As another seasonal offering, the manor has picnic baskets featuring local products, which can be enjoyed under the apple trees. If you’d like to include this in your plans, check in advance whether it’s available on the date of your visit.

Excursions and Directions

The Maison de l’Estuaire regularly organizes excursions at Pennedepie Beach. As dates and availability need to be checked, verify the details before your visit. That way, you can plan the excursion around your stay without confusing it with the beach trail or a swim: each has its own purpose and schedule.

To reach Manoir d’Apreval, turn left in Pennedepie after the stop sign, then turn left again after a further 100 metres. Then follow the signs for cars or buses. These directions provide specific guidance for this visit; by contrast, plan to reach the beach via Rue de la Mer on foot.
