If you choose Condé-Sur-Noireau as a destination, you can explore cultural history, art, local industrial history and time outdoors at a variety of sites. The museums reveal different sides of the town; churches, a municipal park and a cycling route section complete the picture. This lets you plan your trip around the topics that interest you most.

Printing, art and local history

The Musée de l’imprimerie typographique introduces the trades of typesetting and typographic printing through equipment dating from the early 19th century. If you are interested in the history of printing, you can see here how closely manual work and technical tools are connected. On display are a working Linotype, a Monotype and manual printing presses. The different machines illustrate various forms of printing, so you can learn about the history through more than just texts.

The Espace Musée Charles Léandre brings together several historical and artistic perspectives. A 40 m² model shows Condé-sur-Noireau before the bombings of 6 June 1944. Alongside it, the museum presents the artistic world of Charles Léandre through an original scenography and an interactive tour. The section devoted to local memory explores the town’s industrial past through objects and digital archives. This brings urban history, art and industrial history together under one roof, while keeping them distinct as separate topics.

Churches and remembrance

The Église Saint Martin is the oldest building in Condé-sur-Noireau. Its Gothic portal dates from the 13th century and its bell tower from the 15th century. The church also houses a Pietà by João Turin, installed in 1917. It serves as a memorial to the 69 men from the Saint-Martin quarter who fell in the First World War. The architecture and remembrance can be explored here through specific structural features and a particular memorial object.

The Église Saint Sauveur also preserves a special object: a giant shell brought back by Dumont d’Urville serves as a holy water font and survived the bombings. Together, the two churches reveal different aspects of the local heritage, from medieval architectural history to objects with their own stories of remembrance.

Park and cycling route section

The 10 ha Parc Municipal Maurice Piard combines walking paths with children’s play areas and a music pavilion. The park offers various reasons to spend time outdoors, whether you want to take a walk, find somewhere to play or see the music pavilion. There is also a first-category fishing pond in the park. To fish, you need a permit from the Truite Condéenne or the EGHO; only one rod is permitted.

For cycling plans, the La Vélo Francette section from Pont-d’Ouilly to Condé-sur-Noireau is relevant: parts of the route follow small roads shared with other users along the Noireau River. The route information refers to this section and describes its roads and river course. This lets you weigh up your travel interests, from museums and architectural history to time in the park and a bike ride along the route section mentioned.
