Saint-Germain-du-Pert: Marais de l’Aure, Church and Cider
Accommodation in Saint-Germain-du-Pert
When choosing a stay in Saint-Germain-du-Pert, several interests come together: the Les Marais de l'Aure landscape, cycling, the parish church and local produce. Different details matter for planning: for cycling routes, the stated distance is important; at the church, architectural elements from different centuries can be distinguished; and for a visit to Vergers de Romilly, take note of the day of the week, time and language.
Landscape, storks and cycling
The Les Marais de l'Aure landscape alternates between bocage and marshland, and storks have settled there. The Belvédère du sentier des Marais de l'Aure is located in the Parc naturel régional des marais du Cotentin et du Bessin. It is also on the route of the Boucle vélo des Marais de l'Aure.
The Boucle vélo des Marais de l'Aure is offered in variants ranging from 30 to 44 km. For planning your own ride, the route length provides a concrete basis for comparison: choose the variant according to the distance you want to cover. Download the route details before setting off.
The route page, updated in August 2026, indicates a red marker numbered 11 in both directions for the 30 km Les Marais de l'Aure loop. Check the markers on site before setting off.
Parish church and Fontaine Saint-Lubin
The oldest parts of the parish church of Saint-Germain-du-Pert date from the 13th century; the portal and tower date from the 18th century. The different dates make it possible to distinguish the architectural elements by period. A stained-glass window depicts Saint Lubin as a bishop healing a believer's sight.
A staircase leads from the church forecourt to the Fontaine Saint-Lubin. The open-air basin served as a washing place. The staircase connects the church forecourt with this former everyday-use site; in this way, the church's architectural and pictorial history complements the basin's former use.
Local produce and food history
Vergers de Romilly produces cider, Pommeau with AOC designation, Calvados with AOC designation and apple juice. The range therefore extends from cider and apple juice to Pommeau and Calvados with AOC designation.
Guided tours of the premises are offered on Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. in French or English. Check the visiting schedule before travelling, before planning a tour. After the visit, visitors can sample the products with the producers.
The Saint-Germain-du-Pert dairy offers another perspective on food history. Its main activity was the traditional production of raw-milk Camembert. It was founded around 1920 and closed in 1988. The two subjects relate to different periods: the dairy represents a completed history of production, while Vergers de Romilly produces goods and offers tours.
