Trévières combines a marshland landscape with striking reminders of its history. When planning your stay, you can choose between different interests: walks where route length and seasonal conditions matter, or buildings and cultural history. The individual routes vary considerably in duration and course; seasonal advice also applies to specific trails.

Buildings and Cultural History

Le Beau Moulin was built in 1634. The rectangular, two-storey grain mill has manor-house-style architecture. The millrace and the mill were designated historic monuments by a decree dated 25 March 1993. This means that both the building and the millrace are protected features.

Cinéma Le Normandy opened on 11 October 1952 with the film “Procès au Vatican.” It is considered a landmark of Trévières’ post-war reconstruction and local cultural life. At Église Saint-Aignan, the bell tower has been protected as a historic monument since 23 July 1909. The mill, cinema and church tower offer different ways to explore the town’s architectural and cultural history.

Hiking Between Marshland and Coast

The full-day “Grande boucle des marais de Trévières à la mer” runs from the Marais de Trévières to Omaha Beach. A more clearly defined option in terms of time is “Au coeur des marais”: rated easy, this 9-kilometre hike takes three hours, starts in Trévières and is marked in yellow. Compared with the full-day loop, it offers a different timeframe for planning your outing.

The Promenade du Haut Bault starts in Trévières and crosses a marshland landscape shaped by the Tortonne. Along the way, you’ll find La Grande Ramée, a fortified farm typical of the Bessin. Amphibians, reptiles and numerous bird species can be observed in the marshes along the route. Here, landscape, wildlife and a historic building all feature along the same walk.

The historical walk “A la découverte de Trévières, d'Hier à Aujourd'hui” introduces the heritage and development of the town over several centuries. The Parcours des Gosnons follows the Chemin des Gosnons through the marshes of Trévières. In winter, expect mud and damp conditions on this route.

Seasonal Advice and Getting Around

“Au coeur des marais” may be flooded in autumn and winter. In that case, hikers should follow the signposted alternative routes. This restriction applies to this route; the Parcours des Gosnons, by contrast, is specifically noted for winter mud and damp conditions. When choosing between the trails, these different conditions, along with the stated distances and durations, can help you plan your day.

The Halle de Trévières serves as a tourist information point and a starting point for walking and cycling routes through the marshes. The exact facilities may vary while work planned through 2026 is underway. The specific route details give you an idea of the time needed for some of the walks; the historic sites add a distinct dimension to your stay.
