Discover Saint-Sylvain
Accommodation in Saint-Sylvain
Saint-Sylvain can be considered for trip planning through several specific themes: church and local history, two parks, and cycling and roller sports. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in the municipality, these highlights can help you decide which interests will shape your trip. Saint-Sylvain lies on the transport route between Caen and Falaise, providing a regional point of reference when choosing your destination.
Church history and a possible Roman connection
The original Saint-Sylvain church was built between the 13th and 16th centuries. The parish church of Saint-Sylvain has been partially protected as a Monument historique since 14 December 1914. The broad construction period and the precise date of its partial protection provide different historical points of interest. A Roman site is also said to have existed at Bignette, also known as Coquerel. Thus, clearly dated church-related landmarks sit alongside a possible Roman connection.
Two parks with different features
Parc de la Vallée is in the heart of the municipality of Saint-Sylvain and was created by redeveloping the former SIAM site. Landscape management is the focus at Parc de la Flatière: since 30 March 2022, Ouessant and Landes de Bretagne sheep have been used there across approximately 12,000 square metres to maintain the green spaces and promote biodiversity. In 2021, four beehives were also installed at Parc de la Flatière as part of an educational initiative.
The two parks therefore have quite different features: at Parc de la Vallée, the redevelopment of the former site is central to its history; at La Flatière, the focus is on using sheep to maintain the green spaces and on the educational beehive initiative. If you are interested in municipal landscape management or environmental education, these specific themes offer different points of reference for your plans.
Pump track and cycling club
The pump track near the football pitches is intended for bicycles, kick scooters and skateboards. Helmets are required to use the facility. The Association des Randonneurs Cyclotouristes de Saint-Sylvain (ARCSS) offers a different cycling focus: it organizes road cycling, mountain biking and gravel activities and is open to all three forms of cycling. Helmets are also required on rides.
The difference between the facility and the club makes their respective activities clearer when choosing: the pump track is intended for three types of use, while the ARCSS offers three forms of cycling. Helmets are required for both; check the current guidance before taking part. This can help you decide whether to focus on a specific facility or the activities of a cycling club when planning your trip.
Regional location and event
Saint-Sylvain lies on the transport route between Caen and Falaise. This provides a regional point of reference for the destination without assuming any particular mode of travel. When choosing a hotel, you can combine this location with the local themes that matter to you: church and local history, the park projects or cycling.
The first Saint Sylvannaise took place on 9 March 2025. The two races, over 8 and 12 kilometres, went through the streets of Saint-Sylvain and along paths in the municipalities of Soignolles and Valambray. This route description relates to the 2025 edition. If an event date matters to your travel plans, check the date of the specific event.
