Courseulles-Sur-Mer combines Second World War memorial sites with marshland, beach and water sports. For your stay, the Centre Juno Beach, coastal paths and water-based activities offer a range of options.

History at the Centre Juno Beach and Parc Juno

The Centre Juno Beach presents Canada’s civilian and military war effort, as well as the different fronts of the Second World War. Younger visitors can follow the “Explore Juno” family trail.

In Parc Juno, remnants of the Atlantic Wall form part of the park’s historical landscape. These include a bunker and underground galleries leading to rooms in a former German headquarters. The signposted coastal path provides information about the area’s natural richness and historical character.

Parc Juno is open to all visitors year-round, unless temporary restrictions are in place; check before your visit. The Centre Juno Beach offers guided bunker tours from April to October. Check the dates for the year before your trip.

Coastal Paths, Beach and Nature

Parc de l’Edit lies on the eastern edge of the town, in a marshland area just a few steps from the sea. It covers seven hectares. Walking paths cross the park and are suitable for strolls; a bridle path leads to the beach.

Plage Plaisance, on the Centre Juno Beach side, is a more natural beach. Protected ringed plovers regularly nest there. This means the town’s natural side can be seen not only in the marshland of Parc de l’Edit, but right on the coast as well.

A beach wheelchair (Tiralo) is available at every lifeguard station in Courseulles-Sur-Mer. With assistance, users can reach the beach, move around there and bathe in calm water.

At the end of the harbour stands a wooden pier, rebuilt after the war, offering panoramic views of the beaches and harbour. Small white beach huts line the central seafront promenade, which is 600 metres long. Details of seasonal beach facilities may change.

Water Sports and Paths by the Sea

The Ecole de Voile offers a wide-ranging programme, from beginner activities to competition training in land sailing, catamaran sailing and dinghy sailing, as well as windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. Boat licence courses are also available. Activity details may vary by season.

The Vélomaritime runs near the central beach. A dedicated cycle path follows Avenue de la Combattante and the seafront from Camping Cap Fun towards Parc de l’Edit. Check route conditions before setting off.

This makes it easy to distinguish between different travel interests: historical exhibitions and bunker tours sit alongside coastal paths, nature watching and water sports. When planning your trip, you can choose the focus that best suits the activities you would like to spend time on during your stay.
