Le Faulq: Saint-Martin Church, Works of Art and Horse Riding

A black charitable hood (Chaperon de confrérie) is housed in Saint-Martin Church. It is embroidered with silver thread and bears an image of Saint Martin, both embroidered and appliquéd. Saint Martin thus links the church’s name with a motif on the hood.

The inscription reads “CHARITE – DU FAULQ - 1791.” It brings together the word CHARITE, the place name DU FAULQ and the year 1791. The chalice in the same church is dated to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. These objects are therefore dated in different ways: the hood’s inscription includes a specific year, while the chalice is broadly assigned to a period.
