When planning a stay in Bavent, you can choose between themes related to craftsmanship and architectural history, as well as outdoor activities. The Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent represents a production tradition dating back to 1842; it is joined by the Musée des épis de faîtage and Château de Bavent. Outdoors, there is a wooded walking area, a named hiking trail, and a fishing spot.

Craftsmanship and architectural history

Since 1842, the Poterie du Mesnil de Bavent has made architectural elements for façades and roofs. Examples include ridge finials, as well as decorations for gardens and interiors. The artisans continue to work by hand, using traditional stamping and throwing techniques. Production thus encompasses both building elements and decorative work. The Musée des épis de faîtage at the pottery traces the site’s history and preserves old kilns. This cultural focus therefore brings together craft techniques and the history of the production site.

Château de Bavent’s main construction phase took place in the 17th century, and it is partially protected as a Monument historique. This classification applies to parts of the château, not the entire building. Architectural history is therefore the focus here, while at the pottery the emphasis is on production and the site’s history. For your trip planning, these are two different ways to explore Bavent’s heritage.

Walks and hiking trail

At Le Verger de Roncheville, you can take a free walk on paved paths through a 2-hectare wooded area. The grounds also include an animal park showcasing 26 breeds of Norman animals. This site thus combines a walk through wooded surroundings with displays of Norman animal breeds.

The “Les marais et l’île de Robehomme” hiking trail crosses part of Bavent and is about 14 kilometres long. This makes it different from the walk at Le Verger for planning purposes: there, the focus is a wooded area with paved paths; here, it is a named route with an approximate distance. The roughly 14-kilometre distance gives you a specific point of reference when fitting the hike into your day’s plans.

Fishing at Étang du Colvert

Étang du Colvert is a fishing spot beside a 3-hectare pond in a green, rural setting. Fishing equipment can be rented at the site. Anglers are allowed to picnic and barbecue. If equipment rental is important for your visit, check in advance whether it will be available on your chosen date. If you plan to picnic or barbecue as part of your fishing trip, note that these permitted activities are explicitly associated with anglers.
