The Lidice Memorial, Kladno’s mining history and historic places such as Budeč and Třebíz give Kladno District a variety of travel highlights. Gardens, educational trails and regional cuisine add to these themes. When planning your trip, consider which experiences interest you most; this will help you tailor your search for a hotel in Kladno District to the kind of trip you have in mind.

Remembrance, art and a rose garden in Lidice

The Lidice Memorial combines a permanent museum exhibition with a moving walk through the grounds of the former village. It offers free smartphone audio guides for self-guided visits. The Lidice Gallery focuses on a different aspect of culture: its permanent exhibition presents the Lidice collection of modern art, alongside temporary exhibitions.

You can also explore present-day Lidice and the rose garden on foot. The garden connects the old village with the newly built one. It was established in 1955 as a Garden of Peace and Friendship and covers 3.5 hectares. The grounds include 240 rose varieties and more than 24,000 rose bushes; planting numbers are continually renewed. A visit therefore combines remembrance with a garden whose history and scale are also part of the experience.

Mining history and cycling near Kladno

The Mayrau Mining Museum features a preserved display of the last working day: machines and equipment are arranged as if the miners had just left work. The museum is a branch of the Sládeček Museum in Kladno. An educational trail on Kladno’s mining history passes former mines, the outcrop of the main coal seam and the Žraločí zuby natural monument. The two attractions offer different perspectives: a staged depiction of mining work and a route connected to the traces of mining.

Kladno railway station was once an important railway hub for mining and metallurgy. From there, Route 0017 follows the present-day railway line. In the Kladno area, there is also a 300-metre-long natural pump track beside Route 0017. It offers easier and more challenging route options. The route connects with Kladno’s railway history, while the short pump track offers easier and more challenging options.

Historic places, architecture and views

At Budeč, you can see surviving fortifications and the foundations of the Church of the Virgin Mary. The nave of the Rotunda of Saints Peter and Paul is considered the oldest standing building in the Czech Republic. The Budeč viewpoint offers views over Kováry and the valley of the Zákolany stream; seasonal vegetation may limit visibility. The site’s architectural history and its views can be appreciated as two distinct aspects.

The ethnographic museum in Třebíz is an open-air museum whose displays are based on village buildings and their interiors. Architectural features dating from the late 16th century have been preserved at the Cífkův farmstead. In Buštěhrad, the Ota Pavel Museum is dedicated to an exhibition created together with the writer’s family, friends, local eyewitnesses and people connected with his books. The History of Buštěhrad educational trail links historically significant buildings with places associated with the writer Ota Pavel.

Lány Castle adds another historical highlight: since 1921, it has been the official summer residence of the Czech head of state. Visits are possible from April to October; check seasonal visiting arrangements before your trip. This makes the time of year a practical consideration when planning a castle visit.

Educational trails, water and regional cuisine

The Lánská Obora educational trail introduces the area’s native forest flora and fauna and includes a section for observing wildlife. At 4.4 kilometres long and divided into two sections, it is easy to assess from these basic details. The wildlife viewing section is open seasonally, so take this restriction into account when planning your visit.

Čabárna Water Park is designed in the style of a Japanese garden and invites visitors to stroll around its water features. The park includes ponds, ornamental pools with water lilies, aquatic plants, and domestic and wild animals. In Slaný, Antoš Brewery uses Czech hops from the nearby Žatec area and malt from the Haná region of Moravia. Beer is served directly from the lager cellars. Together, these different experiences range from a stroll by the water to locally sourced ingredients and beer.

The Kladensko-Slánsko region is shaped by its coal-mining heritage, where old Přemyslid fortifications meet an industrial landscape. Cultural and industrial history complement the specific visits to Lidice, Kladno, Budeč and Třebíz. Choose the themes you would like to explore during your stay, then find a hotel that suits your travel plans.
