Hořešovičky lies in the so-called Klobucká Plain. The village combines architectural heritage with archaeological traces from different periods. For planning your trip, you can distinguish between two main areas of interest: buildings such as the Baroque chapel and the Neoclassical farmstead on the one hand, and finds of stone tools, a grave and settlement remains on the other. Events also add a distinctive touch, ranging from historic agricultural machinery to the traditional Pálení čarodějnic.

Geographical setting

The location near the road between Prague and Chomutov is a useful reference point for getting your bearings in the region. The road location and the village’s history answer different questions: the former places Hořešovičky geographically, while the chapel, farmstead and archaeological finds define the village’s cultural focus. If you choose your destination based on architectural heritage or archaeology, you can consider these topics separately from the question of event dates.

Architectural heritage in the village

A Baroque chapel dating from the 18th century stands in the village square, with the coat of arms of the Kinský family displayed on it. If you are interested in religious architecture, you can consider its location, style and period together, along with the specific coat-of-arms motif.

The rural farmstead at Hořešovičky No. 15 is a listed monument. It is Neoclassical in style and includes a half-timbered outbuilding; the complex dates from the late 19th century. Compared with the chapel, different building types and periods are therefore in focus: a Baroque religious building from the 18th century and a Neoclassical farm complex from the late 19th century.

Archaeological traces

The Acheulean archaeological site was discovered in autumn 2002. It yielded a large collection of stone tools made from chipped stone, mostly fashioned from local Paleozoic chert. The combination of the collection’s size and the material is particularly informative for anyone interested in archaeological finds.

A different archaeological perspective comes from the grave in the garden of house No. 27. At a depth of 1.6 metres, the grave of a woman described as wealthy, dating from the 4th to 3rd century BC, was found there. Unlike the tool collection, this find focuses on a single grave and its dating.

Near Hořešovičky, a settlement from the Early Roman Imperial period extended along a southeast-facing slope descending towards the Bílichovský potok. Several sunken huts, pits and postholes were identified at the site; two Roman bronze vessels were also found there. Here, structural evidence of a settlement appears alongside individual vessels. A few hundred metres northwest of Hořešovičky, there was a settlement in the 2nd to 3rd century.

Events

The 2026 edition of “Historická brázda Hořešovičky” is another event featuring historic agricultural machinery, organised for families and the general public. In 2026, the municipality of Hořešovičky invited residents and visitors to the traditional Pálení čarodějnic. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the date of the specific edition before making your plans.
