Jarpice – Cultural Monuments and Landscape
Accommodation in Jarpice
Jarpice and the district of Budenice are home to several cultural monuments with distinctly different architectural forms. These include the pilgrimage church of Kostel sv. Isidora, the Kinsky burial chapel complex, smaller chapels and the Sýpka. There is also a hollow with two streams and a range of leisure activities currently focused on hiking and cycling.
Kostel sv. Isidora in Budenice
The important pilgrimage church of Kostel sv. Isidora is located in Budenice, a district of Jarpice. It dates from 1680 to 1682 and features valuable sculptural decoration. The building is single-naved and oriented, with an oval central space on a Greek cross plan. Sculptures by J. J. Bendl complement the architecture of the Early Baroque ceremonial portal with its volute gable. The floor plan, portal and sculptural decoration give the religious building several distinctive architectural features.
The Kinsky burial chapel complex
Also located in Budenice is the Kinsky burial chapel complex, a notably valuable example of funerary architecture by Viennese architect Heinrich Koch. At its centre is a chapel with a cruciform plan, surmounted by a dome at the crossing. The protected complex also includes an enclosure wall with two gates, a statue of an angel, an allegorical statue of a woman, a park and the associated land. Unlike a single religious building, the focus here is on the protected ensemble of the chapel and its other components.
Chapels and the Sýpka
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk (Kaple sv. Jana NepomuckĂ©ho) is a small Baroque central-plan building dating from around the 18th century. It stands in a meadow on the road to VyšĂnek. The Chapel of St Isidore (Kaple sv. Isidora) is located on the village green of Jarpice, on the road to HornĂ Kamenice, and has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958. Its location therefore differs from the meadow where the chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands.
The Sýpka, a two-storey stone granary of Renaissance origin, is also among the cultural monuments. Baroque timber structures have been preserved in this immovable cultural monument. Historical layers of plaster with Renaissance sgraffito and Baroque plaster are visible in places on the façades. As a granary, the Sýpka offers a different perspective on the town’s architectural history than the religious buildings: here, the focus is on the preserved structures and layers of façade.
Landscape and leisure in Jarpice
Jarpice lies in a hollow through which the Vranský and Pálečský streams flow, bordered by steeper slopes. Two lime trees in a field south of the settlement of Jarpice are designated as natural monuments. A chestnut avenue runs along the road at the southeastern boundary of the cadastral area.
Current sports and leisure activities in Jarpice are focused on hiking and cycling. Alongside the cultural monuments, these two activities are also specific interests to pursue during a stay. Jarpice is fully accessible by road for motorised travel. A visitor report from 2015 notes that there is neither a railway line nor a railway station within the municipality. Check the current rail connections when planning your trip.
