Pozdeň combines a long history of churches and monuments with local events and a cycling route that starts and ends in the town. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide the purpose of your stay: would you like to experience the Staročeské máje, focus on historic buildings, or include the 45-kilometre cycling route? These priorities lead to different travel dates and plans.

Church and Architectural History

Jaroslav Plichta of Žerotín had the Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist built in Pozdeň in 1289. Between 1847 and 1858, Václav Štraybl of Vrané remodelled it in the Baroque style, giving it its present form. In 1879, Canon Jan Bernard donated the marble high altar to the church. Its present form therefore dates to the 19th-century remodelling, while the altar donation marks a separate, later date.

Monuments in the Town

Near the town centre stands a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1746. It was restored in 1996. The war memorial is next to the bus stop by the municipal office. It commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War from 1914 to 1918, as well as the victims of the German occupation from 1939 to 1945. Between 2022 and 2024, the memorial was repaired and enclosed with a new fence. The two monuments differ in subject and historical context: one is a statue of a saint, while the other commemorates victims of war and occupation.

Events Throughout the Year

Every May, local young people organise the Staročeské máje. The event includes a procession of young people in traditional costumes accompanied by musicians, as well as a public procession attended by visitors from surrounding municipalities and towns. Another event takes place in March: the local SK Slavoj Pozdeň organises Šibřinky on the second Saturday of March each year. These are two different occasions held in different months of the year.

Nature Park and Cycling Route

Pozdeň is one of the municipalities that mark the boundary of the Džbán Nature Park. The park was designated in 1994 because of its exceptional, well-preserved landscape character. Separately, the official 12–Peruc cycling route runs along roads and forest tracks. The 45-kilometre loop starts and ends in Pozdeň. When planning, you can take both the circular route and the different types of surface into account; check current route conditions before setting out.

Bus Travel

Bus route 588 connects Slaný, Srbeč and Milý and serves Pozdeň on weekdays. If you plan to take the bus to or from Pozdeň, check the current timetable and match your connection to the day of the week. This makes it easier to include the bus in plans for an event or a cycling trip.
