Hospozín: Architectural History and Townscape
Accommodation in Hospozín
When choosing Hospozín as a travel destination, transport connections, the townscape and historic buildings provide practical points of reference. Buses run towards Velvary and Slaný, and Kmetiněves railway station is about half a kilometre away. In the town itself, the Vranský Stream, a distinctive chimney and buildings with a range of historic details shape the view. Tennis courts are another option to consider when planning your visit.
Getting There and Tennis Courts
ICOM buses run in Hospozín towards Velvary and Slaný. Kmetiněves railway station is about half a kilometre from Hospozín and lies on the Roudnice nad Labem–Zlonice railway line. Hospozín can be reached from there by train or bus. Before travelling, check routes and timetables, as well as whether rail services are operating.
A municipal notice about the tennis courts, last updated on 21 October 2025, lists different hours for weekdays and weekends: during the week, the courts are open from 4 p.m.; on weekends and public holidays, they are open all day. On weekdays, a booking is required two days in advance; for weekends, it must be made by Friday at the latest. Booking conditions may change, so check them before your visit.
Waterway and Townscape
The Vranský Stream flows into the local pond and then passes through the town centre towards Černuc. The waterway includes a designated flood zone. The stream creates a distinct line in the townscape, running from the pond through the town; another landmark is the red chimney with a white stripe. It is a symbol of Hospozín and belongs to the former sugar factory.
Chapels, Church and Monuments
At the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk, a stone portal bears the coat of arms of Anna Polyxena z Clary a Adringen and the year 1711. The Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist was built in 1595 on the site of an older building. It stands in an area where archaeological finds have been made. Hospozín therefore features both a distinctive portal detail and a building history linked to an earlier structure.
The niche chapel with a statue of St John of Nepomuk has a different form: it is designed as an elaborately decorated volute column with the statue set in its niche. It dates to shortly after 1750. Smaller monuments also have precise details: the unusually designed sandstone group of Saints Peter and Paul bears the year 1776 on the front of its pedestal. The stone cross is regarded as a high-quality example of late Rococo craftsmanship.
Two Granaries and the Manor House
Several construction details can be distinguished at the early Baroque granary. The two-storey building has a rectangular floor plan and a hipped roof; its original timber structure has been preserved. Inscribed cartouches on the façades bear the year 1673, while 1709 is carved into the door. Above the main entrance is an elaborately decorated overdoor panel bearing the coat of arms of the estate’s owners, the Kinský family. The different dates therefore refer to different parts of the building.
Another granary is a two-storey stone building with a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof. It was built as a new Baroque structure in the second half of the 18th century. The two descriptions emphasise different features: the early Baroque granary stands out for its preserved timber structure and dates inscribed on its components, while the later building is notable for its materials, roof shape and period of construction.
The manor house on the agricultural estate is a two-storey rectangular building constructed after 1836. It is privately owned, used as a residence and not open to visitors. Do not plan to visit it.
