Discover Ledce: Museum, History and Džbán Nature Park
Accommodation in Ledce
Ledce brings together several themes for a stay: the Malé asijské muzeum focuses on local history and the former spa facilities of Šternberk; there are also riding lessons, activities at Ledecká Farma and a location in Džbán Nature Park. If you are looking for a hotel in Ledce, you can first decide whether your trip will focus on the museum, local history, horse riding or the landscape.
Malé asijské muzeum
The Malé asijské muzeum has been active in Ledce since 2005. On 8 December 2012, the memorial room for the municipality of Ledce and the former spa facilities of Šternberk opened there. It documents the history and life of the municipality from the earliest times to the present day. It does so using 15 large panels, several smaller panels and display cases containing photographs, newspaper clippings, documents and objects.
A traditional Mongolian yurt stands in front of the museum building, and visitors can explore its interior. The museum also has a library, with mostly Czech-language literature about Asia as well as literature from the Slánsko region. Check current access arrangements before your visit.
History of Ledce and Šternberk
The settlement of Šternberk has been part of the municipality of Ledce for several centuries. At the beginning of the 19th century, after the springs had been investigated, the Martinic family founded a spa there. A stately colonnade was built at a spring in the settlement. Archaeological finds from the present-day municipality attest to prehistoric settlement. The former fortress of Ledce stood at Dvořiště, between Ledce and the settlement of Šternberk. These historical themes can thus be linked to different places and periods: from prehistoric finds and the former fortress to the history of the spa.
Nature and Activities
Ledce is located in Džbán Nature Park, which was established in 1994 and covers 416 km². The nature park is mostly hilly, rising to upland in some places. The area around the former spa buildings of Šternberk partly extends into Džbán Nature Park and the Smečno Natural Monument. It is considered a pleasant place for a walk; the former spa buildings themselves are not open to the public.
The Jezdecká škola run by Renata Pavlasová Čečilová offers riding lessons in Ledce. In good weather, lessons are complemented by rides along bridleways in the area around Ledce; beginners are accompanied. Arrange your participation in advance.
Ledecká Farma (Etincelle) is open to the public, but visits must be announced in advance. In summer, it runs holiday camps for children. It also offers year-round programmes for schools and kindergartens, as well as herb workshops.
