In Lidice, local history and remembrance sit alongside the art and educational offerings of the Lidická Gallery and the rose garden between the former and newly established Lidice.

History and remembrance in Lidice

The Lidice site was designated a cultural monument on March 3, 1962, and a national cultural monument by government decree on August 16, 1995. At the Lidice Museum, the multimedia exhibition “A nevinní byli vinni...” presents the lives and fates of the residents, the destruction of the village and its reconstruction against the backdrop of major historical events. The exhibition thus covers several aspects of local history, from its residents to its reconstruction. The memorial to the child victims of the war has a focus of its own: it depicts 42 girls and 40 boys murdered in 1942. The exhibition and the memorial therefore have different focuses—one on the history of the place, the other on remembrance dedicated to the children.

The rose garden between old and new Lidice

The Lidice rose garden covers 3.5 hectares between the former and newly established Lidice. It contains 240 rose varieties and more than 24,000 rose bushes. The number of varieties and bushes may change as they are regularly renewed and added to. In contrast to the historical themes, the garden is a landscape highlight featuring a wide variety of roses. If you do not want to plan your trip solely around exhibitions and remembrance, you can take this difference into account when choosing a theme for your trip.

Art and educational offerings at the Lidická Gallery

The International Children's Art Exhibition Lidice is held annually at the Lidická Gallery. The specific dates and works on display may change. In addition to cultural programs, the gallery also hosts concerts and theater performances; individual programs vary. On the first floor, the Children's Gallery offers programs for the youngest visitors.

The interactive educational program “KDO JE BOB?” is aimed at preschool children and children in the first years of primary school. “Stavíme nové Lidice” takes place at the Lidická Gallery and at Lidice House No. 116; students build prototypes of new houses in Lidice. The two educational offerings differ in their target groups and activities: “KDO JE BOB?” is interactive and specifies age groups, while “Stavíme nové Lidice” focuses on building house prototypes. The availability and dates of the educational programs may change.

Choose the reason for your trip to guide your hotel search

This makes the theme of your trip more specific without conflating the different focal points. If you plan to attend a particular gallery program or the annual children's art exhibition, check the latest dates and availability of the program before your trip. The themes in Lidice thus offer different ways to decide whether the place suits your travel interests.
