Jedomělice combines natural features, a documented local history and two cycling routes, offering different points of interest for your stay. The village lies on the edge of Džbán Nature Park and at the source of the Byseňský potok. White dittany can be observed seasonally in the surrounding forests; historical references and routes complement this natural perspective with their own themes.

Nature and plant life

White dittany is the specific botanical feature: it can be observed seasonally in the surrounding forests. The Ostrov u Jedomělic Natural Monument protects a population of this species as well as other warmth-loving plant species. In addition, the edge of Džbán Nature Park and the source of the Byseňský potok provide two different geographical reference points. When planning your visit, you can consider the landscape, the watercourse’s source and plant observation as distinct nature interests. If flora is your main focus, take into account the seasonal nature of dittany observation. “Warmth-loving” describes the preferred living conditions of a plant species: it grows in warm locations. The natural monument protects not only dittany but also other plant species that prefer these conditions.

Local history and the fortification site

Jedomělice was first mentioned in written records in 1316. In 1413, part of what was then Dědomilice belonged to the Ostrov fortification. The two dates are 97 years apart and mark two different historical references: the first mention of the village and the part’s association with a fortification. The original historic centre consists of farmsteads grouped around a widened village street. At the Ostrov fortification site, a ditch separates the structure from the farmyard. These offer different perspectives: the dates place early references in context, the farmsteads and village street describe the centre, and the ditch separates the fortification site from the farmyard.

Comparing cycling routes

For cycling trips, you can compare two routes by length, course and surface. The 9 km route runs from Pozdeň via Jedomělice to Hájovna and on to Dubový rybník before returning to Pozdeň. It follows roads and a forest track. The 17 km route runs from Jedomělice via Lotouš, Neprobylice, Kutrovice, Kvílice, Plchov and Pozdeň, following field and forest tracks. It is therefore 8 km longer than the 9 km route. The starting points also differ: the shorter loop starts and ends in Pozdeň and passes through Jedomělice; the longer route starts in Jedomělice and passes through several named places. Both routes include forest tracks; roads are specified for the 9 km route and field tracks for the 17 km route. You can weigh up route length, surface and sequence of places together. Check local conditions before cycling, as trail conditions may vary.
