If you are looking for a hotel in Šlapanice, you can tailor your stay to your interests: nature by the water or architectural and local history. Local water features include a stream running through the center and the Šlapanický rybník; historic buildings offer a different focus. This makes it easy to decide in advance whether you are more interested in walks and fishing or in the history of individual buildings.

Water and the town’s setting

Šlapanice extends along both banks of the Vranský potok, which flows through the center. The town’s position on both sides of the stream and the stream running through its middle are therefore closely connected. The Šlapanický rybník is another local water feature, offering different activities: nature walks and fishing.

The Šlapanický rybník was created in 1750 and was formerly called Červený rybník. Both names refer to the same pond. You can enjoy walks in nature there, and the pond is used for fishing. These activities suit different interests: a walk focuses on nature, while fishing makes use of the water. Parking is available directly by the water on both banks. As visitor facilities can change, check the parking arrangements before your visit.

Buildings and historical dates

The Čertův mlýn grain storage complex was built in 1751 and still stands on the road from Šlapanice to Budeničky. The Chapel of Saint Florian in Šlapanice was solemnly consecrated on May 7, 1854. There are 103 years between these two dates. They also represent different historical events: the construction of a grain storage complex and the consecration of a chapel.

Šlapanice and Budeničky are mentioned in written historical sources in 1318. This year marks a mention, not a construction event, and thus provides a different chronological reference from the construction and consecration dates. Distinguishing between these types of dates helps separate written local history from architectural and religious changes.

In chronological order, the written mention from 1318 predates the architectural and landscape-related dates of the 18th century. These include the third wing of the château in Budenice, built in 1748; the creation of the pond in 1750; and the grain storage complex in 1751. The chapel was consecrated later, in 1854. This timeline helps place the developments in context without treating a mention, construction, and consecration as the same kind of event.

The history of Budenice Château

Budenice Château has its own architectural history. Count Filip Kinský had a third wing built in 1748; from 1765, Count Jan Josef Kinský had the interiors extensively remodeled. This sequence distinguishes the château’s expansion by a wing from the later work on its interiors. A third wing describes the building’s expansion, while remodeling the interiors means making changes inside the building. The two projects were 17 years apart, marking two distinct phases in the château’s history.
