Hobšovice: Church, Pond and Nature
Accommodation in Hobšovice
Hobšovice between architectural history and nature
You can explore Hobšovice during a stay through several specific themes: the Church of St. Wenceslas shapes the landscape, Hobšovický rybník is a protected natural site, and a nature trail features stops along three rivers. There is also a puppet museum and a calendar of local events. If you are looking for a hotel in Hobšovice, it is best to decide first what you want to focus on during your trip. Architectural history, nature watching and a specific reason to visit lead to different activities.
Church and monument: local architectural history
The Church of St. Wenceslas is a prominent landmark in the landscape around Hobšovice. Its original structure was Gothic. In 1850, a Baroque tower with three bells was added on the west side. Two different building periods thus meet in one structure: the original Gothic church and the later Baroque tower.
On the road to Luníkov stands a Neoclassical monument with a statue of the resurrected Christ. It was erected in 1878 in memory of two young people who tragically died there. The monument was restored in 2012 and 2013, then returned to its original location. The church and the monument offer two different ways to explore the history of the village: one traces the changes to a religious building, while the other commemorates a specific event.
Hobšovický rybník and the Mokřiny u Beřovic protected area
Hobšovický rybník lies on the Bakovský potok in the western part of the Hobšovice cadastral area. A specially protected natural monument, it covers about 10 hectares and is also a regional biocentre. It is protected because it is an important bird nesting site and home to wetland communities. Numerous gulls nest on an island in the pond every year. The pond is therefore a clearly defined place where several aspects of wetland conservation can be seen.
The protected area of Mokřiny u Beřovic is separate from the pond and also includes the Hobšovice cadastral area. Mokřiny u Beřovic is protected as an important nesting, resting and migratory bird area, as well as a habitat for wetland animals and plants. The two names therefore refer to different natural features: the individual pond on the Bakovský potok and a protected area that also includes Hobšovice. Anyone interested in birdlife and wetlands will find more than one natural feature to explore here.
Nature trail with stop 19 in Hobšovice
The nature trail along the Bakovský, Vranský and Zlonický rivers opened in 2013. Stop 19 is in Hobšovice; the trail has 21 stops in total. The routes can be combined to create different lengths. This gives you a basis for planning your time without specifying a particular route length. Check the current condition of the trail locally before deciding on your route.
Puppet museum and local reasons to visit
A municipal description from 2024 states that the Minimuzeum panenek has been located in the former shop premises at Hobšovice No. 20 since February 4, 2024. It mentions historical and retro dolls, as well as other toys. Visits to the museum can also be arranged for another date. Check the visiting arrangements before your trip so you can plan your museum visit accordingly.
The traditional Bartolomějská pouť takes place in Hobšovice on the last Saturday in August. Check the event date when planning your trip. The organizer listed the Hobšovická motoristická burza in its calendar for 2026 and described it as traditional. In summer, a refreshment stand is open every afternoon at the sports field. As this is a seasonal offering, confirm that it will be operating during your travel dates in advance.
