Discover Družec: Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Družec
When looking for a hotel for a stay in Družec, you can first consider whether protected nature, architectural history, or routes for cyclists and pedestrians should shape your visit. The town offers specific points of interest for each: a natural monument named for a plant species, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and other historic sites, as well as a cycling and walking route to Doksy.
Nature and the Edge of Town
Pod Veselovem is a protected natural monument on the eastern edge of the built-up area of Družec. It protects a site where the black-violet pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis nigricans) grows. This is distinct from the Povodí Kačáku Nature Park, which runs through Družec along the corridor of the Loděnice stream. The different focuses help distinguish the two: Pod Veselovem is centered on the protected plant species, while the nature park is associated with the stream corridor.
The Church and Local History
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the oldest building in Družec. Between 1688 and 1690, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style into its present form. The dates refer to the church’s present form, while its designation as the oldest building indicates its standing in the town. Near the church, in the center, stands a column with a statue of the Virgin Mary. At the church entrance, by the cemetery wall, there is also an irregularly shaped sandstone block about the height of a person, known as the družecký Zkamenělec.
The town’s religious history also includes an old, legendary Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus. Annual pilgrimages and processions were associated with it. Another religious figure is the statue of Saint Peter of Alcántara. It stands on the road to Doksy, about 60 meters from the cemetery.
Družecká kalvárie and Routes
Družecká kalvárie, also called U tří křížů, is a viewpoint on a rocky outcrop above the Loděnice stream, also known as Kačák. A path about 500 meters long leads there from Družec’s village square; it is paved at first and grassy at the end. Check the path on site before planning your visit. Three crosses stand side by side at the highest point. They commemorate the crucifixion of Christ and the victims of the plague who died at the beginning of the 19th century. The calvary can therefore be understood both as a viewpoint and as a place of remembrance: its position above the stream and the significance of the group of crosses describe two aspects of the same destination.
The Družec–Doksy route is another option for cyclists and pedestrians. It is shared by both groups; the cycle path is separated from car traffic, and the route is suitable for families with children. By contrast, the path about 500 meters long from Družec’s village square leads to a specific viewpoint and is paved at first, with a grassy surface at the end. This makes it possible to distinguish the two routes by their stated purpose and character.
One specific past hiking day was May 23, 2026: on that date, the 34th edition of the Družecká šlápota hiking event took place in Družec.
