Hořešovice in the Zlonický potok Valley

Hořešovice lies in the valley of the Zlonický potok stream in the southern part of the Dolnooharská tabule. The stream is relatively clean. This makes it possible to distinguish between the local and regional context: the valley describes the immediate landscape, while the Dolnooharská tabule provides the broader geographical setting. In addition to historic buildings, the landscape can therefore be a distinct theme during a stay. Those who want to understand the location first can start with the stream valley and then consider its regional setting; the village’s history offers a different perspective from this description of the landscape.

Village Square and Remembrance

The oldest built-up part of Hořešovice lies around a large village square; a monument to the victims of the First World War stands in the square. Two distinct aspects of the village’s history come together here: the spatial development of the village center and remembrance of the war victims. The village square thus serves as a shared point of reference for both the settlement’s structure and public remembrance. This view of the village differs from the architectural history of the church, which offers its own historical focus.

Church of St. Peter and Paul

The Church of St. Peter and Paul was originally built as a Gothic church in the 14th century. The protected complex includes the bell tower, the surrounding wall with its gate, an 1814 tomb, and the associated grounds. The protection therefore applies to a site comprising several elements. The dates should be distinguished: the 14th century marks the church’s Gothic origins, while 1814 refers to the tomb.

A cross on the road to Hořešovičky and a chapel in Hořešovice are designated as architecturally valuable structures. They add two more notable buildings to the cultural and historical picture and offer an additional way to explore local architecture alongside the church’s history.

A Local Celebration

The traditional Pálení čarodějnic celebration takes place at the playground by the pond. Hořešovice therefore offers a local event to explore in addition to its village layout and ecclesiastical architecture. If you would like to include the celebration in your trip, check the date in advance.

Bus Routes and Cycle Route

Two bus routes serve Hořešovice along different itineraries. Route 589 runs via Kvílice, Hořešovice, and Líský to Louny; route 389 serves the Hořešovice stop on the Prague–Slaný–Louny–Chomutov route. The itineraries differ in the places named and provide a starting point for planning. Check the latest departure times before setting out.

A specific cycling route is also available: cycle route 202 passes through Hořešovice on the Kralupy nad Vltavou–Slaný–Louny route. Unlike the bus routes, this route passes directly through the village. Check the current signage locally if you plan to follow it.
