Kačice – Džbán Nature Park, trails and history
Accommodation in Kačice
When looking for a hotel in Kačice, it helps to consider the destination in terms of what matters for your stay. The village lies on the edge of Džbán Nature Park and on the left bank of the Loděnice stream, also known here as the Kačák. Cycling routes, marked hiking trails and historic landmarks offer different ways to plan your day. Your choice therefore depends on whether you would rather focus on outdoor trails or on the history of the mill, railway, chapel and farmstead.
Hiking trails and cycling routes
A red-marked hiking trail runs along the southern edge of Kačice beside the Loděnice. It stretches from Lodenice near Mšecké Žehrovice to Loděnice near Beroun. The yellow-marked hiking trail heads in a different direction: from Kačice, it leads north to the Obora forester’s lodge and then on to Smečno. The trails thus differ in their locations and stated destinations: one follows the stream along the southern edge, while the other heads north. Check the trail markings locally before setting out.
There are also two specific points of reference for cycling. Cycle Route 0105 runs through Stochov, Čelechovice, Kačice, Srby and Kamenné Žehrovice; its total length is 8.55 kilometres. Kačice railway station is also a suitable starting point for a cycling trip into Džbán Nature Park. The cycle route can be identified by its number, the places it passes through and its total distance; the railway station is recommended as a starting point for a trip towards the nature park.
Mill and horse-drawn railway
The former Koulův mlýn is now the Otevřený mlýn. Visitors can arrange a personal guided tour of the entire complex; confirm availability before travelling. Koulův mlýn dates back to 1666. At the end of the 19th century, the mill was converted to steam power and, together with an adjoining steam dairy, formed an industrial complex. The original construction date and the later conversion mark distinct phases; the steam dairy was part of the complex’s industrial context.
Another chapter in the village’s history is the Prague–Lány horse-drawn railway. It had a station in Kačice in the 19th century. The route of the former horse-drawn railway followed the Kačák to Čelechovice, where it crossed to the other bank over a bridge. Alongside the station in Kačice, the route beside the stream and the crossing at Čelechovice provide specific historical points of reference.
Chapel and farmstead
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk is a neo-Gothic niche chapel dating from 1851. Since 1993, a mass has been celebrated there on 16 May, the feast day of St John of Nepomuk. If you are planning a stay around this date, check the arrangements for the relevant year locally. The chapel thus links a specific construction date with a recurring calendar date.
The rural farmstead at Masarykova 52 comprises a dwelling house, a barn, partially preserved stables, a perimeter wall and gates. It is probably an example of half-timbered construction from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its date is therefore less certain than that of the chapel, which was built in 1851. The various features illustrate the farmstead’s character as an ensemble: in addition to the dwelling house, it includes farm buildings and structural enclosures.
