In Wattens, Swarovski Crystal Worlds presents Chambers of Wonder inspired by art, culture and crystal. Since opening in October 1995, it has been a place for international artists, designers and visionaries. Bringing these themes together gives the Chambers of Wonder a clear cultural context and makes Crystal Worlds a special destination for anyone interested in design and art.

Culture, Museums and History

The Typewriter Museum in Wattens displays more than 450 fully functional typewriters from the Jörg Thien collection. The collection spans from 1884 to the present day, covering a long period in the history of the typewriter. Check the opening hours and whether admission is free before your visit.

The old town of Hall in Tirol is one of the largest preserved historic complexes. Guided city tours take place year-round on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m.; the Mining Museum can then be visited at 11:30 a.m. If you would like to combine both, check the times in advance, as program details may change.

The Hall Mint Museum is housed in Hasegg Castle. Here, visitors can explore the development of coinage and various minting techniques. The castle setting and the history of money are thus brought together at the heart of the museum visit.

The Absam Municipal Museum devotes part of its exhibition to violin maker Jakob Stainer. A violin made by Stainer himself is a special exhibit. If you would like to visit this museum, check the current opening hours in advance.

Explore in Summer and Winter

At Glungezer, there are groomed winter hiking trails and a toboggan run. Glungezer ski area also offers groomed slopes for skiing and snowboarding. The activities therefore vary: in addition to downhill skiing, winter hiking and tobogganing are also part of the winter offerings described here.

The seasonal shuttle service of the Glungezer cable cars takes visitors to the mountain station daily; the Zirbenweg is one of the mountain experiences mentioned there. It passes through one of Europe’s largest stands of Swiss stone pines and offers views of the surrounding Karwendel peaks and the Inn Valley. The trees and the two viewing areas are distinct landscape features of the trail.

For winter sports, Axamer Lizum offers 9 lifts, 40 kilometres of pistes and extensive freeride terrain; operations are seasonal. There is also the “Axamer Lizum” circular hiking trail: it is about 3.5 kilometres long and particularly suitable for families, active seniors and Nordic walkers. Its approximate length and the listed user groups offer concrete guidance when choosing a trail.

Near Mieders, there is a 7-kilometre natural toboggan run that is lit and allows for night tobogganing. As well as hiking trails, there are clearly described winter activities, each with its own features.
