Rinn: Hiking, Winter Trails and Culture in Tyrol
Accommodation in Rinn
Rinn lies southeast of Innsbruck at the foot of Patscherkofel. Possible starting points for your trip include the hike to Rinner Alm, trails for various winter activities, the golf course, and the churches in Rinn and Judenstein. Which of these themes you focus on depends on whether you want to spend time outdoors, plan winter sports, or explore the town’s history.
Hiking around Rinn
The hike from Rinn to Rinner Alm begins just beyond the golf club and climbs steadily through the forest. At Rinner Alm, hikers can enjoy local specialties to recharge during their outing. The Speckbacherweg offers a different starting point for walks and hikes: it passes the golf course in Rinn. The two route descriptions focus on different aspects—the forest ascent on the hike to the alm, and the route past the golf course on the Speckbacherweg. Trail conditions can vary by season.
Tobogganing and cross-country skiing in winter
The Rinner Alm toboggan run is 4 kilometres long; the return route to the valley follows the same trail. The ascent begins at the southern edge of Rinn and follows a separate, wide winter hiking trail that is distinct from the toboggan run. This means the ascent and the toboggan run can be considered different parts of the outing. Operation and grooming depend on snow and winter conditions; check the latest information if you are planning your visit around them.
The Panoramaloipe starts opposite the car park for the Archenstadllift Rinn and runs along sunny meadows towards Judenstein. It has both a classic diagonal track and a skating track. The Golfloipe offers another cross-country skiing option and runs partly across the golf course grounds. When comparing the trails, both the starting point and route are relevant, as are the types of tracks available; grooming depends on winter conditions.
Archenstadllift Rinn is a ski area for children and beginners. It includes a Snow & Fun Park with a range of obstacles designed especially for children. Operation depends on snow conditions. If you are planning a winter trip, check the operating information and trail grooming status for your intended dates.
Churches and local history
The parish church of St. Andrew the Apostle in Rinn is a Rococo church with ceiling paintings by the Giner brothers. The list of protected monuments dated 30 June 2025 includes it, as well as the War Memorial Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows on Rinnerberg, as protected by ordinance. The pilgrimage church of the Visitation of Mary in Judenstein was built in 1670 by Dr. Guarinoni; the list states that its monument protection is based on a decision under Section 3.
In the pilgrimage church in Judenstein, information panels address a difficult chapter in local and church history. Panels formerly displayed there document the development of the church’s engagement with the subject. One panel presents the story of the ritual murder of a child by Jewish merchants as historically unfounded and as an antisemitic prejudice. Another panel in the entrance area, unveiled in July 2026, explains the origins and spread of the so-called blood libel and places it in its historical and theological context. The church also contains a stone intended to serve as a sign of atonement and forgiveness towards Judaism.
Golf course and seasonal events
The Innsbruck Golf Club’s 18-hole golf course lies on the sunny slopes of Glungezer. From there, panoramic views stretch across the Nordkette, from the Wetterstein massif over the Northern Limestone Alps to the Wilder Kaiser. The golf course features in activities associated with different seasons: golf takes centre stage in summer, while the Golfloipe runs partly across the grounds in winter.
Events can also be an important factor when choosing when to travel. Schneeschmelzgaudi is a recurring event in the late Tyrolean winter and has become a fixture in Rinn. The Christmas market in Judenstein traditionally takes place on the square in front of the church on the second Sunday of Advent. Traders and farmers from Rinn offer agricultural products there, including Kiachln and Zillertaler Krapfen. If you are planning your trip around one of these events, check the date for the relevant year.
