Mieders at the Foot of the Serles
Accommodation in Mieders
Mieders is located in the front part of the Stubai Valley at the foot of the Serles. You can choose from a range of activities as you plan your trip: hiking and leisure activities in the Serles area, as well as chapels, frescoes and traces of life in earlier times in the village. If you are looking for a hotel in Mieders, this contrast can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.
Hiking and Leisure in the Serles Area
The Serlesbahnen lifts take visitors from the village to the Serles hiking and ski area. At the mountain station, Serlespark has an expansive water play area and numerous hiking trails; the attractions also include three viewing platforms. The Stubai Super Card 2025 brochure also lists a panoramic lake and a children’s area at Serlespark.
For an idea of how long hikes take, the Stubai Valley hiking trail network offers routes ranging from 15 minutes to 3.5 hours: the corresponding hikes start at the Koppeneck mountain station. These are distinct from the trail themes mentioned for Mieders and the Serles area. There, you’ll find a hike through a raised bog and the Quellenweg (Spring Trail); the summit route to the Serles offers impressive views. This lets you distinguish hikes with a stated duration starting from Koppeneck from experiences whose special appeal lies in the landscape, trail name or summit views.
The Serlesbahnen brochure from April 2025 presents King Serli’s Nature Adventure Trail as a fun hiking route. At several interactive stations, children learn about local nature. The same brochure describes the summer toboggan run in Mieders as 2.8 kilometres long, with around 640 metres of elevation and a top speed of 42 km/h. These figures give a concrete impression of the ride without equating it with a hike.
Chapels, Village Character and History
The chapel on Kalvarienberg stands on a hill in the middle of the village centre. The present building was constructed in 1843 on the foundations of a structure dating back to the 13th century. Every year on All Souls’ Sunday, a memorial procession proceeds from the church to Kalvarienberg. Since 2018, a memorial site for all star children has stood on its eastern side.
There are also historic buildings around the parish church of Maria Geburt: the cemetery chapel next to the church dates from 1358. Houses with Baroque frescoes stand in the village centre. The restored Old Mill offers a glimpse into the crafts and farming life of bygone days. Together, religious architectural history, memorial sites and insights into past work provide different perspectives on Mieders.
The protected monuments include the Rosary Chapels and the Marian Fountain. They are protected by ordinance and listed in the Federal Monuments Authority Austria’s Tyrol inventory dated 30 June 2025. Together with Kalvarienberg Chapel, the cemetery chapel and the frescoes, they form a cultural focus distinct from the leisure activities in the Serles area.
Planning Your Stay
According to the Serlesbahnen brochure from April 2025, the Serles train runs directly to Maria Waldrast Monastery several times a day; frequency may vary. Check the current timetable for your planned visit day. When planning a stay in Mieders, several questions arise: Would you like to choose hikes based on their stated duration from Koppeneck, follow a particular hiking or leisure interest, or set aside time for architectural and local history? The answers can help you decide what to focus on during your trip, without confusing the different destinations and activities.
