Statz: Cycling and hiking trails, chapel and Kandlerhof
Accommodation in Statz
Statz brings together several specific points of interest for a trip: a mountain biking route and two hiking descriptions include the district along their routes; there are also the Statz Chapel, the accessible themed playground and the Kandlerhof, which makes its own pasta. A section of the VIA ROMEA GERMANICA also follows “Statz” Street. When looking for a hotel, it makes sense to first decide whether you mainly want to include a cycling route, a hike, a cultural connection to the area or the farm’s history in your plans.
Cycling and hiking trails
The mountain biking route “From the Brenner over the Schlüsseljoch and via the Hühnerspielhütte to Innsbruck” connects to the Brenner Cycle Path. On the way to Matrei am Brenner, it passes through the district of Statz. Passing through Statz and connecting to the Brenner Cycle Path are two specific points to consider when planning this route. Check current route conditions before setting off, as they may change.
On the walk to Kraftsee, the descent back to Matrei leads through the small villages of Mühlen and Statz. The Steinach–Matrei circular hike is a separate route: from Puig, follow the marked signs via Mühlen to Statz and on to Matrei. The difference in the routes described lies in their initial sections: the Kraftsee walk involves the descent back to Matrei, while the circular hike follows the marked route from Puig via Mühlen and Statz.
Stage 58 of the VIA ROMEA GERMANICA leads from Matrei am Brenner to the Brenner Pass. It is rated moderate, is 21.3 kilometres long and has a stated duration of 6 hours and 15 minutes. At the playground, it follows “Statz” Street straight across the intersection. Here, “Statz” refers to the street name along the route.
The route details therefore vary by mode of travel and level of detail: the mountain biking route connects to the Brenner Cycle Path, the two walking routes pass through MĂĽhlen and Statz on their way to Matrei, and the VIA ROMEA also specifies the difficulty level, distance and duration.
Chapel and Kandlerhof
The Statz Chapel, also known as Halder Chapel, is located in the northern area at Statz 14b, 6143 MĂĽhlbachl. It is protected as a historic monument by ordinance; the year 1535 is also associated with the chapel.
The Kandlerhof is in Statz (MĂĽhlbachl), on the border with Steinach am Brenner, and has been owned by the Seehauser family since 1942. Its pasta is made with eggs from the farm; six whole free-range eggs are used to make one kilogram of dough.
The years refer to different things: 1535 is associated with the chapel, while 1942 marks the start of the family’s ownership of the Kandlerhof.
Themed playground by the Sill
The accessible themed playground in Statz is located beside the Sill at the southern end of Matrei.
