Trins combines a compact Romansh clustered village with hiking opportunities, cross-country skiing and churches steeped in history. There are also tours of varying difficulty, as well as churches and a castle with historical associations. This lets you plan your stay around the activities that matter most to you.

Hiking trails between the valley and the forest

The Trins Sunny Trails offer easy hikes close to the valley in the Gschnitz Valley and invite you to take walks in every season. Above Trins, a circular hike through peaceful woodland leads to the Sarnthein Waterfall, a place of natural energy. Families will find plenty of hiking opportunities around the mountaineering village of Trins, including trails to the Sarnthein Waterfall. When choosing a route, you can distinguish between easy trails close to the valley, the circular hike above the village and the family-friendly hiking opportunities around Trins.

A challenging multi-day hike in the Gschnitz Valley

The Gschnitz Valley Hut Tour links all six huts in the Gschnitz Valley on a challenging multi-day high-altitude hike. The Gschnitz Valley, with the municipalities of Trins and Gschnitz, has been designated a mountaineering village since 2019. This means the Gschnitz Valley offers both easy walks close to the valley and a challenging multi-day tour, with very different levels of difficulty. Check route conditions before setting out.

Cross-country skiing and a ski lift in winter

Cross-country skiing is one of the main activities in Trins during the winter months, with more than 40 kilometres of cross-country ski trails. Trail conditions can vary, so it is a good idea to check them before making specific plans. The Trins ski lift is used by children to learn and practise skiing; operating conditions may also vary. Cross-country skiing and the ski lift therefore cater to different winter interests: trails for cross-country skiing on the one hand, and opportunities for children to learn and practise skiing on the other. Check current conditions before your visit.

Churches and local history

Trins is a compact Romansh clustered village: the term describes a densely grouped village layout. St. George’s Parish Church was first mentioned in historical records in 1359. St. Magdalena was first mentioned in historical records in 1307 and is much older. The church stands on a projecting rocky outcrop about 400 metres above the valley floor. During restorations from 1960 to 1972, Romanesque frescoes were discovered; they are among the oldest wall paintings in North Tyrol. Residents of Trins still visit St. Magdalena in all weather and celebrate Mass there; ask locally for exact service times. Sarnthein Castle was a former hunting lodge of Emperor Maximilian.
