When staying in Telfs, you can choose from a range of focuses: museums and local customs, striking buildings, or a stage of the Way of St. James. The following places and traditions each offer a different perspective on the town and its cultural themes.

Museums and music history

In the center of Telfs, Noaflhaus houses several museums and a gallery. Admission to the museums is free. The Carnival Museum provides in-depth information about this old custom through figures, stories, multimedia presentations, and film excerpts. You’ll encounter different ways of presenting the subject: vivid figures sit alongside stories and audiovisual contributions. If you’re interested in carnival traditions, this gives you more than just a single glimpse of local customs.

Villa Schindler is also part of Telfs’s cultural history: for many years, Mrs. Schindler hosted high-caliber piano concerts in her salon there. These concerts add a musical dimension to the town’s history and differ in theme from the collections at Noaflhaus. Together, local customs and concert history offer two distinct starting points for a culture-focused stay.

Church, town hall and cultural walking tour

The parish church of Saints Peter and Paul is a monumental, three-aisled neo-Romanesque basilica with two towers on its façade. The heritage-listed Telfs Town Hall offers a different architectural perspective: its façade is regarded as an important and rare architectural monument and memorial.

If you’d rather explore these themes on a walking tour, the Telfs Cultural Walk takes you past frescoes, ornate fountains, and historically interesting buildings. Its featured stops range from murals and fountain art to buildings. The walk can be viewed as a cultural perspective in its own right, alongside individual buildings, though not all the sites share the same focus.

An annual solemn procession through Telfs is also part of local tradition: on January 20, St. Sebastian’s Day, a statue is carried through the town. This fixed date gives the tradition a clear place in the annual calendar.

Peace Bell and the Way of St. James

The Peace Bell is located in Mösern, a district of Telfs, and is Austria’s largest free-standing bell. It rings for five minutes every day at 5 p.m. for good neighborliness and peace. If you include the bell in your daily plans, the time provides a specific point of reference. Unlike a museum visit, the focus here is a brief, recurring moment with an explicitly stated message.

The Isar–Loisach–Leutascher Ache–Inn Way of St. James also passes through Telfs: one stage runs from Leutasch via Telfs to Stams. For pilgrims, this sequence of places is a useful aid to planning their journey, as it shows where Telfs lies along the stage. If you’re planning your stay around this route, you can follow the stated sequence of Leutasch–Telfs–Stams.

Getting to Telfer Bad

One route to Telfer Bad is to take the train to Telfs-Pfaffenhofen station and then, for example, bus route 2 to the Telfs Schul- und Sportzentrum stop. This is a specific public transport connection to help you plan if the swimming pool is part of your stay. Check the timetables for your chosen connection before you travel.
