For travelers looking for a hotel in Buchen, several themes come together: sweeping mountain views, traces of farming history, and clearly described hiking trails. You can choose where to stay based on the main focus of your trip. The area’s profile includes both scenic and cultural attractions, as well as tours with numbered routes or an explicitly multi-day format.

Mountain Scenery and Evening Atmosphere

From Buchen, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Hohe Munde, Wetterstein Mountains, Mieming Range, and Stubai Alps. A sunset in the hamlet of Buchen is also considered a memorable experience. The views of the named ranges and the evening atmosphere in the hamlet offer distinct scenic highlights.

History Across Several Eras

The mountain farmers’ museum at the Landgasthof Ropferstub’m displays around 70 collectibles from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Ropferhof in Buchen probably dates from the 13th or 14th century. Katzenloch offers a glimpse into a much earlier period: botanists analyzed pollen dating back thousands of years. So-called cultural indicator plants suggest that woodland pastures existed in this area as early as the Early Neolithic. The historical references thus range from early land use to the probably medieval Ropferhof and collectibles from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Snowshoe Hike and Trails to Rauthhütte

Snowshoe hike S4 starts at Ropferstub’m in Buchen. It first follows Trail No. 24 to Katzenloch, then climbs to Rauthhütte via Trail No. 99. The sequence of trail numbers makes the route easy to follow: Katzenloch comes before the climb to the hut. From Rauthhütte, the Buchener Steig descends to Buchen at 1,193 m; from there, a hiking trail leads down through the Kochental valley to Telfs in the direction of Birkenberg. Rauthhütte is therefore the destination of S4 and the starting point in the description of the Buchener Steig; the two route descriptions indicate different directions. Another tour is “The Loop Around the Munde”: it is described as a three-day tour and leads from Buchen through the Kochental valley toward Telfs and Birkenberg. S4 focuses on numbered trail sections and the climb to the hut, while the three-day tour is explicitly multi-day and follows the route toward Telfs and Birkenberg.

It serves traditional, hearty Tyrolean cuisine and refreshments in all four seasons, and is a popular year-round destination for leisurely hikers, food lovers, (e-)bikers, and cross-country skiers. This year-round destination and its culinary offerings complement Buchen’s scenery, culture, and hiking themes.
