When choosing a place to stay in Mühltal, you can use specific trails, cultural sites and the Mühltal bus stop as points of reference. The hike to Meißner Haus, cycling routes through the districts of Ellbögen, as well as chapels and historic sites appeal to different interests. If you are looking for a hotel in Mühltal, consider whether hiking, cycling or culture will be the main focus of your trip.

Hiking to Meißner Haus

The hike to Meißner Haus starts at the paid car park in Ellbögen/Mühltal. The trail follows a stream and passes a chapel and an old mill wheel. You can plan the tour based on its starting point, destination and waypoints. Allow for the parking fee at the starting point and check trail conditions before setting off.

Cycling through Mühltal and the surrounding area

There are several cycling routes, described in different ways. The cycling tour along the old Roman road passes through the Ellbögen districts of St. Peter, Mühltal and Innerellbögen. A mountain bike tour from St. Peter via Mühltal towards Profeglalm is also suggested as a tour idea. The first description outlines a cycling tour through three districts; the second is a mountain bike tour idea heading towards the alpine pasture. Compared with the hike to Meißner Haus, the starting points differ: the hike begins at the paid car park in Ellbögen/Mühltal, while the mountain bike tour idea starts in St. Peter.

A mountain bike route via Profeglalm follows a section of forest road below the alpine pasture towards Meißner Haus; it then becomes a blue-marked trail in the nature reserve. Profeglalm, also known as Ochsenalm, lies at an altitude of 1,809 metres on the slope of Morgenkogel.

Chapels and cultural history

Two chapels in Mühltal offer different points of interest for visitors interested in culture. Florianikapelle was built in 1979/80. Viggarer Lourdeskapelle, at the address Mühltal 52, is a protected monument. One is notable for its construction dates, the other for its protected status—two different aspects to consider when planning cultural visits.

The parish church of Ellbögen has a Gothic north portal and frescoes inside the church, which were uncovered in 1928 and during the most recent interior renovation in 1982. The dates refer to when the frescoes were uncovered, not to when the church was built.

In Innerellbögen, Hinterlocher Mühle was renovated in 1995/96 and opened to the public as a show mill. If you plan to make it a cultural stop, check current visiting options before setting out.

Getting there by bus
