Two nature trails offer different perspectives on the natural environment of Greater Poland. The Osowa Góra–Jeziory nature trail introduces key plant communities and the natural values of strictly protected areas. The Nadwarciański nature trail follows the Warta River and showcases habitats ranging from poplar-willow floodplain forest to pine forests.

Landscapes Between Protected Areas and Ancient Oaks

Wielkopolski National Park protects a glacier-shaped landscape with forest and lake ecosystems among meadows, fields and erratic boulders. Its 18 areas under strict protection preserve glacial landforms, natural plant communities and the animals associated with them.

The Ostoja Wielkopolska Natura 2000 site is a special area of conservation for habitats and overlaps with Wielkopolski National Park. It covers undulating and hilly terrain on the left bank of the Warta in the Greater Poland Lowland. Ostoja Rogalińska is home to more than 1,000 oaks, including three specimens over 500 years old.

Nature Trails: Learning About Nature and Planning Your Route

The Osowa Góra–Jeziory nature trail is 5.5 kilometres long; this distance applies to the one-way route. The walk takes three hours. At the end, a viewpoint looks out over the castle island in Lake Góreckie. The trail thus combines nature themes with a specific destination at its end.

The Nadwarciański nature trail is also listed as 5.5 kilometres long and takes three and a half hours to walk. Both trails therefore have the same stated distance, although for the Osowa Góra–Jeziory trail it is explicitly given as a one-way route. The different walking times are a useful comparison when planning your day.

Opening Hours and Permanent Exhibition

The permanent exhibition of the Muzeum Przyrodnicze WPN is housed in four exhibition rooms on the ground floor of the Wielkopolski National Park Directorate building in Jeziory. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 14:00. On Sundays, from 1 April to 30 September, it is open from 11:00 to 18:00. Check the opening hours again before your visit.

Cycling, Birdwatching and Waterways

Wielkopolski National Park is popular with cyclists and serves as a local recreation area for nearby communities, particularly Poznań. Nadwarciański Landscape Park is well suited to birdwatching. In Kraina 100 Jezior, you can cycle across markedly hilly terrain.

For water tourism, the Wielka Pętla Wielkopolski offers a different perspective: it is a 688-kilometre marked route along the Warta and Noteć rivers, past several lakes and through two navigable canals.

Cultural Sites and a Local Specialty

Gniezno Cathedral was the site of the coronation of Polish kings. The Muzeum Zamek Opalińskich in Sieraków documents, among other things, Piotr Opaliński’s participation in Władysław IV’s campaign to Moscow. In Śmiełów, the Muzeum im. Adama Mickiewicza is housed in a Palladian palace. Pałac w Rogalinie is one of the historic residences worth visiting in Greater Poland.

The region also has its own culinary specialty: Andruty Kaliskie are baked using a traditional method.
