Obernigk: Mill Museum, Rivers and Historic Sites
Accommodation in Obernigk
Obernigk can be explored through several specific themes: the history of milling and hydropower in Jaracz, riverside and cycling routes, and historic architecture. Oborniki County lies directly north of the Poznań metropolitan area and borders the Warta, Wełna and Flinta rivers. When planning your visit, it helps to distinguish between the places and their respective highlights: attractions and places of interest can be found in Jaracz, Oborniki and Rogoźno, among other places.
The history of milling and hydropower in Jaracz
The mill museum in Jaracz is located on the Wełna, on the eastern edge of the Puszcza Notecka forest. The mill settlement complex in Jaracz is listed as a cultural heritage site in Oborniki County. The museum’s educational programs also cover a range of topics. The hands-on workshop “From Grain to Loaf” is aimed at preschool and primary school children: they learn how flour is made using pestles, hand mills and sieves. Another educational program is intended for students at technical colleges and secondary schools. It introduces water as a source of energy through the Jaracz small hydropower plant, which is in operation and has a capacity of 45 kW. The topics therefore range from the journey of grain to the use of hydropower.
Cycling routes and nature reserves
The “Bagna Chlebowo” cycling route starts and ends at the Museum of Milling and Water-Powered Rural Industry in Jaracz and leads to the Bagna Chlebowo Nature Reserve. The “Rezerwaty” cycling route offers a different route: it is about 90 km long, starts at the swimming pool in Oborniki and leads to the “Wełna” Nature Reserve in Jaracz.
The Słonawy ichthyological nature reserve is also part of the Wełna river landscape. It covers a 1 km stretch of river; the Wełna flows through Oborniki to its mouth.
Oborniki: Educational Trail and Water Sports
Along the historical and educational trail in the Gmina Oborniki, 33 information boards point out places of interest in Oborniki and the surrounding area. The trail also includes the Gothic parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Oborniki, dating from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.
In Oborniki, the Obornicki Water Sports Association – APLAGA offers opportunities for kayaking, motorboating and sailing. Together with the river stretch in Słonawy and the educational trail’s information boards, these provide different starting points for a stay in Oborniki.
RogoĹşno: Town Hall Museum and Church Architecture
The Wojciech Dutkiewicz Regional Museum in Rogoźno is housed in the listed Neoclassical New Town Hall. The building was constructed in 1826–1828 and extended in 1911–1913. The Church of St Vitus offers a different architectural style: it is three-aisled and pseudo-basilical; according to tradition, it acquired its present form around 1526.
