Słupca County: Lakes, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Słupca County
The lake district of Powidz Landscape Park is a picturesque part of Słupca County: ribbon lakes with clear water lie amid forests and beaches. Lake Powidzkie lies on the boundary between the municipalities of Powidz and Ostrowite and is part of the park. The lake and park give the landscape a clear framework for planning your trip.
Lakes, Trails and Shores
Three hiking trails and eleven cycling routes run through Powidz Landscape Park. This offers a choice of routes for two different ways of exploring the area. On the shore of Lake Powidzkie, the promenade in Powidz combines a pedestrian and cycle path. Its first section, 922 metres long, runs between Łazienki and Dzika Plaża. As surfaces and the route may change, check the current route before setting out for a walk.
The history of Łazienki is also connected with the lakeshore. It dates back to the first beach, established at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1922, wooden bathing facilities were built there to a design by the engineer Soczkiewicz from Poznań; some of them stood over the water. This historical development gives the name Łazienki a distinct connection to the early development of the shore.
Nature Trails and Education
For a specific choice of route, two educational trails offer different lengths. The Krzynica educational trail is six kilometres long and leads from the car park by the bridge in Ląd via Socznia to Krzynica and back. The “Po suchym i mokrym LĄDZIE” trail is about ten kilometres long and has ten stations. This makes it possible to compare a shorter route there and back with a longer trail featuring designated stations.
The educational programme at the Ośrodek Edukacji Przyrodniczej in Ląd is aimed broadly at children, young people and adults. Another landscape in Słupca County is Nadwarciański Landscape Park, which extends here across the municipalities of Lądek and Zagórów. The two park names refer to different parts of the destination; the routes and facilities mentioned each offer their own starting points for planning.
Historical Traces in Ląd, Powidz and Ostrowite
The monastery in Ląd is a model example of a Cistercian abbey in a natural landscape and is of exceptional historical and cultural value. In Powidz, the Roman Catholic parish church of St Nicholas adds to this historical picture: its stained-glass windows commemorate the victims of the Second World War. These include an image of the martyr Maximilian Kolbe; the church also contains a bronze plaque bearing symbols of the uprising.
Historical traces can also be found at Lake Ostrowite, known as Ostrowickie: the island of Dębowy Ostrów is home to the remains of a Lusatian culture settlement fortification. Together with the monastery in Ląd and the memorials in the church in Powidz, this site shows that the destination encompasses various historical themes as well as its lake district.
