Szydlowiec lies within Powidz Landscape Park, next to Lake Budzisławskie. The village offers points of interest for travelers who want to take cycling routes, landscapes, and local history into account when choosing a destination. The park protects a landscape shaped by the last glaciation, with numerous postglacial lakes, habitats for fish and wetland birds, and rare wetland plants. The municipality of Orchowo is also within the park area.

Cycling Routes and Route Choices

The blue Orchowski Route connects Orchowo with Szydlowiec and passes through Wólka Orchowska, Linówiec, Mlecze, Suszewo, and Osówiec. It is 25.9 kilometers long. The sequence of places makes the route between Orchowo and Szydlowiec easy to follow and gives you clear guidance when planning.

Another route with a stated distance is the black-marked “Cztery Jeziora” (Four Lakes). It is 28.7 kilometers long, and the average travel time is two hours. In a direct comparison of distances, it is 2.8 kilometers longer than the Orchowski Route. You can compare the two routes by length; for “Cztery Jeziora,” the stated average travel time is also useful for planning.

“Cztery Jeziora” is described as a combined hiking and cycling route. The surface alternates between asphalt or paved sections and unpaved stretches, which may become sandy or muddy in poor weather. At kilometer 3.6, cyclists can turn toward Lake Kownackie and the open-air archaeological museum in Mrówki. Szydlowiec is reached at kilometer 12.0; the route description then indicates a left turn after about 1.5 kilometers and a right turn another 150 meters later. As trail conditions and signage may change, it is a good idea to check the latest route information before setting out.

Two other cycling routes can be distinguished by the places they pass through. One goes through Szydlowiec and connects Orchowo Górne, Osówiec, and Orchowo Dolne. The other is a loop via Wilczyn, Suszewo, Osówiec, Anastazewo, and Tręby Stare. Together with the two routes whose distances are stated, these connections offer additional guidance for planning your route.

Local History and Landscape

One of the cultural points along the “Cztery Jeziora” route is a Marian shrine in Szydlowiec. The village was first mentioned in 1511. The former Protestant church dates from 1864 and was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church after the Second World War. Remains of gravestones have been preserved in the former Protestant cemetery; there are also two oaks there designated as natural monuments. Together, the early mention of the village, the church building, and the cemetery remains offer specific points of reference for understanding local history. Check the current accessibility of the church and cemetery before visiting.
