Ostrów Wielkopolski lies on the edge of the Kalisz Upland and on the Ołobok River. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide whether you want to focus on city history, green spaces in the city center, or leisure by the water at Piaski-Szczygliczka. The sights and activities offer different points of interest, so you can organize them according to your interests.

City History and Architecture

The Museum of the City is located in the town hall of Ostrów Wielkopolski. The synagogue in Ostrów Wielkopolski was built from 1857 to 1860 in the former Jewish quarter. Its master builder, Moritz Lande, was from Ostrów Wielkopolski. The façade decoration and the interior, with its double galleries, draw on the Moorish style. The synagogue underwent extensive renovation from 2009 to 2011 and was ceremonially handed over for cultural use on October 6, 2011, under the name “Forum Synagoga.”

The co-cathedral complex is associated with Cardinal Halka Ledóchowski, the struggle for Polish identity, and the Greater Poland Uprising. The Old Cemetery in Ostrów Wielkopolski is one of Poland’s oldest Roman Catholic burial grounds. The museum, synagogue, co-cathedral, and cemetery offer different historical points of reference, taking you from architecture to events in the city’s history.

Parks and Green Spaces

Park Miejski is located in the center of Ostrów Wielkopolski. Its amenities include numerous walking and cycling paths, a pond with fountains, and an amphitheater. Open-air concerts and folk festivals are held in the park. If you want to combine your visit with an event, check the specific dates in advance.

Piaski-Szczygliczka: Leisure by the Water

The Piaski Sports and Leisure Center is located by a body of water in the northern part of Ostrów Wielkopolski and has a sandy beach. A walking and cycling promenade runs around the reservoir. Pedal boats, kayaks, and boats are available for rent at the reservoir. This offers a choice of activities: spending time on the sandy beach, taking a walk along the promenade, or renting a watercraft. Check rental availability before your visit.

The Park Przygód at Piaski-Szczygliczka offers three courses of varying difficulty, with a total length of more than 500 meters. The courses offer a different focus from a walk around the reservoir: here, the routes and their varying levels of difficulty take center stage. Check operating details before your visit. The cycling network in Ostrów Wielkopolski is also being systematically expanded.

Ride the Narrow-Gauge Railway

The tourist narrow-gauge railway runs through Piaski and the streets of Ostrów Wielkopolski in summer. During the school year, it operates between Piaski and the educational trail of ZOiGO MZO S.A., the municipal waste management company on ul. Staroprzygodzka. On the “Ekopodróże” trips, participants learn about the flora and fauna of Piaski. The route and operating period vary; if you plan to take a ride, check the current timetable before traveling.
