Discover Schneidemühl
Accommodation in Schneidemühl
The entire Powiat pilski lies within the Noteć river basin. The Gwda flows through the western part of the powiat and joins the Noteć at Ujście. For planning a trip to Schneidemühl, this offers a choice of different activities: river routes, forest trails, museums, and historic sites. When looking for a hotel, it may help to consider first whether you would rather experience culture, go hiking and cycling, or set aside time for a longer paddling trip.
Water routes on the Noteć, Rurzyca, and Łobżonka
The kayaking route on the Noteć runs from Osiek nad Notecią to Ujście and is part of the Wielka Pętla Wielkopolski. Another route is the Rurzyca waterway, also known as the John Paul II kayaking route. It passes through several lakes and a wooded valley. The approximately 25-kilometer route is planned for around two days of paddling; only the final four-kilometer stretch of the Rurzyca runs through Powiat pilski. The Łobżonka is navigable for 60 kilometers, for which two to three days should be planned. In Powiat pilski, the Łobżonka runs for around 50 kilometers. The Rurzyca and Łobżonka therefore differ both in their stated total lengths and in the time required. Check current conditions before setting out on a paddling trip.
Forest cycling routes and hiking trails
The “Dębowa Góra” forest cycling route is near Osiek nad Notecią and Wyrzysk and runs through the forests managed by the Kaczory Forest District. Its yellow main route is 9.2 kilometers long. The 20-kilometer “Smok” forest cycling route combines nature and history: along the way are bunkers, trenches, war cemeteries, and a national memorial site. The different distances and features provide concrete points of reference for choosing a cycling route. The hiking trail network in Powiat pilski also includes a 25-kilometer route from the “Kuźnik” nature reserve via Dobrzyca and Stara Łubianka to Wiesiółka. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Museums and history
The open-air museum in Osiek covers 13 hectares and features 28 buildings. The oldest dates from the 18th century, and the newest from the early 20th century. The collections at the Muzeum Okręgowe in Piła span archaeology, ethnography, history, and art. The permanent exhibition is devoted to furniture and residential interiors from the late 18th to the early 20th century. The two museums thus offer different perspectives: the focus in Osiek is on historic buildings in an open-air museum, while in Piła it is on collections and the development of furnishings and residential interiors.
Pilgrimage and protected nature
The Marian Shrine in Górka Klasztorna is considered Poland’s oldest Marian pilgrimage site. A Passion play is performed there every year. If you would like to time your visit to coincide with it, check the performance dates before travelling. The “Torfowisko Kaczory” nature reserve protects, among other species, the strictly protected whortle-leaved willow (Salix myrtilloides); other protected and rare plant species are also found there. Nature and cultural sites thus add two more themes to your trip planning alongside the river and forest routes.
