Schneidemühl (Piła) offers natural areas, trails, water and culture as different focal points for a stay. You can plan your trip around whether you want to include marked trails, cycling routes, art or historic sites.

Natural Areas and Parks

The Kuźnik Protected Landscape Area lies in the northwest of the city of Piła and has been protected since 1959. It is accessible year-round and has a marked network of tourist trails. Rare plant and animal species found there include, in particular, birds and bats. The protected area, trail network and wildlife offer nature lovers several specific ways to shape their stay.

The “Nietoperze w Starrym Browarze” nature reserve has a particular focus: it is a nationally significant hibernation site for bats. While Kuźnik is generally known for its rare plant and animal species, the focus here is especially on bats and their hibernation.

In the heart of Piła, Park Miejski im. Stanisława Staszica serves as a meeting place and a spot for walks. It covers 11.63 hectares. Park na Wyspie offers different attractions: it has a beach and a kayak launching point.

Trails, Water and Activities

The Gwda forms a scenic route through Piła and is used by kayakers for trips. Together with the kayak launching point in Park na Wyspie, it makes water a distinct focus of a trip. The river route and the facility in the park are two separately identified options.

For hiking, there is the marked trail network in the Kuźnik protected area. One specifically named route is the marked Rezerwat Kuźnik–Piła Koszyce MZK hiking trail, which is 6 kilometers long. This lets you distinguish between a trail network in the protected area and a hiking route described by name and length.

Several routes are also available for cycling trips. A 60-kilometer section of the international R1 cycle route runs from Stobno PKP via Piła to Osiek nad Notecią. The educational “Smok” cycle route is just over 20 kilometers long and ends in Piła-Kalina. The stated lengths therefore refer to sections and routes of different lengths. Conditions on the “Smok” route may change; check them before your trip. A section of the Transwielkopolska Cycling Route passes through Piła on the route from Poznań to Okonek.

In summer, concerts, a festival and sports events take place in Park na Wyspie. If you are traveling for an event, check the date in advance. This seasonal attraction can therefore be distinguished from the year-round trails in Kuźnik.

Art and History

Galeria MS at the Muzeum Stanisława Staszica in Piła has been open since 2003. It presents photography, painting, drawing, graphic art and three-dimensional objects. Its selection thus ranges from different visual art forms to spatial works. Piła also offers a street art walking tour featuring colorful murals by local artists.

The Muzeum Okręgowe offers museum education lessons in archaeology, ethnography, history and art history. They are based on permanent and temporary exhibitions. The exhibitions and their themes therefore provide a distinct way to explore culture and history, alongside gallery art and murals.

Historic attractions include the surviving former arsenal at ulica 1 Maja 1. It was built in 1843–1844. The historic home of Stanisław Staszic is also a sight in Piła. Together with the street art walking tour, these offer different cultural focal points to include in your travel plans: historic sites, museum offerings and art in public spaces.
