In Gostyń County, sacred architecture, town halls with clearly dated histories and protected landscapes come together. Gostyn offers different options for planning your trip: you can focus on architecture and regional culture, or include natural areas and cycling routes. Each of these themes tells a different part of the region’s story.

Monastery Baroque and the Festival on Święta Góra

The monastery complex on Święta Góra near Gostyń dates back to the 15th century, when a wooden chapel was built there. Since 2008, the complex has been a Polish Historic Monument and is considered the country’s only example of the importation of pure Italian Baroque. It is also regarded as the most significant architectural monument in the Gostyń area. The site thus combines early monastic history with a distinctive architectural character.

Since 2006, the Musica Sacromontana oratorio music festival has been held on Święta Góra near Gostyń. It is organized by the Józef Zeidler Association of Friends of Music on Święta Góra. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for your preferred travel period.

Town Halls and Remembrance

Gostyń Town Hall took on its present form between 1910 and 1912 and has been remodeled several times. A plaque commemorating the victims of Nazi terror is mounted on the front wall, which is decorated with a risalit. In Poniec, the foundation stone for the town hall was laid on September 6, 1842; it opened on October 15, 1843. The dates for Poniec mark the laying of the foundation stone and the opening, while the focus in Gostyń is on the town hall’s later, present-day form.

Religious art is another regional theme: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Borek (Sanktuarium na Zdzieżu) houses an image of the Virgin Mary of Borek, venerated as miraculous. Along with the history of the monastery complex, it offers another distinct perspective on the religious heritage of Gostyń County.

Woodlands and Cycling Routes

The Bodzewko Nature Reserve preserves a natural linden forest and an oak-hornbeam ecosystem. Szwajcaria Godurowska is a scenic, wooded area, reached by a field track from Godurowo in the direction of the forest. A protected forest habitat and a wooded landscape area therefore offer two different nature experiences to choose from.

For cyclists, the cycling paths and routes in Gostyń County form a network more than 200 kilometers long in total. Check current conditions before setting out and adding a route to your plans. The stated total length refers to the county-wide network; it does not specify the length of any individual route.

Biskupizna is a folkloric subregion associated with Gostyń County, known for its distinctive costumes, music and customs. This cultural focus complements the region’s architectural history with its local forms of expression. If you would like to consider folklore as well as architecture when choosing a destination, Biskupizna offers a clearly defined area of interest.
