Magdalenki: Settlement History and Cycling Route
Accommodation in Magdalenki
Magdalenki offers two practical starting points for planning a trip: the history of its origins and a cycling route that passes through the village. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on local history or a cycling trip. The following historical and geographical connections bring both subjects to life.
Origins and Place Name
Magdalenki came into being through the emancipation of the peasants in the first half of the 19th century. At the time of its founding, Kalikst Bojanowski moved the farmland from Krzekotowice closer to Czeluścin. Its origins are therefore linked to both a specific period and a particular place: the reform provides the historical context, while the relocation brings two named places into the story of its founding. The settlement was named after Magdalena Bojanowska, the mother of the person who initiated this reform. The name adds a personal connection to the story of the settlement’s origins. The relocation describes how the settlement’s founding was shaped by geography; the name explains whom the place commemorates. In this way, the historical impetus, the change in the location of the farmland and the origin of the name can be seen as distinct aspects of local history.
Remembrance in Magdalenki
The municipal memorial route is dedicated to the heroes of the Second World War. In 1942, House No. 29 in Magdalenki served as a meeting place for a group of Poles and is one of the route’s stops. There is also a plaque commemorating Antoni Busz on a cross in Magdalenki. Busz was born here and served in the Polish Army from 1919 to 1921. His years of service precede the 1942 meeting, so the two dates refer to different historical periods. In Magdalenki, a memorial site for an episode from the Second World War stands alongside the memory of a soldier born here. The plaque and the stop focus on different things: one on a person, the other on an event.
Cycling Through Magdalenki
The Szlak Bohaterów II Wojny Światowej is an approximately 25-kilometre cycling route that passes through Magdalenki. Along the route, Magdalenki lies between Czeluścinek and Krzekotowice. The route’s approximate length and the sequence of places answer different planning questions: the length describes the route as a whole, while the named places show where Magdalenki lies along it. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider the overall distance and the village’s position separately. The route connects cycling with the remembrance of the heroes of the Second World War. Check current conditions along the route before setting off.
“Franciszek” Windmill
The “Franciszek” windmill is also part of Magdalenki’s history. It is a listed cultural heritage monument and was relocated from Magdalenki. Its last major renovation took place after the relocation, from 1977 to 1979. The sequence distinguishes two historical details: the mill was moved from Magdalenki, and the years refer to the subsequent renovation. Its story thus adds another chapter connected with cultural heritage and monument preservation to the history of the settlement’s origins and its memorial sites.
