Prague-West District: Discover Trails, Culture and Nature
Accommodation in Prague-West District
In Prague-West District, nature experiences and cultural attractions sit side by side. Highlights include the paths in Průhonice Park, the Vltava landscape, historic places such as Skalka and Mníšek pod Brdy, and the brewing history of Řevnice. To choose a hotel and a base for your trip, start with a simple question: would you like to spend most of your time hiking, sightseeing, enjoying water activities, or combining these?
Trails and landscapes
Průhonice Park is a Czech national historic landmark and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its landscapes, historic views and ponds shape the character of the park; visitors can explore 25 kilometres of paths. You can explore the park with a paper map or the SmartGuide app. Guided tours are also available to book. If you would like to take a tour or use a particular navigation aid, check what is available before your trip.
The hiking routes vary in difficulty. Near Jílové, an easy circular trail follows part of the Jílovské vyhlídky educational trail. Considerably longer and more challenging is the Svatojánské proudy educational trail: it starts in Štěchovice and runs for nine kilometres along the wooded banks of the Vltava to Třebenice. Details about distance and difficulty make it easier to choose whether you would rather plan an easy circular walk or a longer hike.
Another option is the route from Řevnice to Skalka. It passes the Lesní divadlo and winds through deciduous woodland; you can also take a detour to Babka. The route offers views of the surrounding Brdy forests. Direct buses from Prague to Jílové u Prahy run several times an hour. Frequencies and routes may change, so it is a good idea to check before travelling. Okoř is also accessible by car or public transport.
At the Slapy Reservoir, possible activities include swimming, spending time at the beach and exploring the surrounding landscape. Conditions for recreational activities can vary by season. If spending time on the water is an important part of your plans, check conditions before your visit.
Skalka and Mníšek pod Brdy
Skalka has a long history as a destination for visitors: after 1762, it became a place of pilgrimage, and from the late 19th century it also developed as a tourist destination. The Stations of the Cross at Skalka comprise 14 chapels and are freely accessible year-round. However, check seasonal access rules before your visit. The Baroque Skalka complex also hosts weddings, exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events; the programme may change.
Tours at Mníšek pod Brdy Castle focus on different aspects. One tour showcases the reception rooms from the First Republic period. A second takes you through private aristocratic rooms and offers a glimpse into the everyday life of the nobility. Castle tours also include the roof structures and towers with their views. The castle park features lavender, flowers and fountains. You can tailor your visit to your interest in the interiors, architecture or park grounds.
Breweries and distinctive places
Pivovar Řevnice is right next to Řevnice railway station, in a former railway building converted into a brewery. The former waiting room is now a pub furnished with traditional railway benches. The connection between railway history and brewery life is reflected in the beers brewed here: Řevnická 10° and Řevnická 12°. The brewery also offers experiences such as a day with the brewer and a home-brewing course. If you plan to try a particular beer or take part in a brewery experience, check availability in advance.
Traditional Czech cuisine is served at Pivovar Řevnice. The restaurant at Pivovar Kytín has an open brewhouse on the ground floor; visitor arrangements may change. The two breweries offer different experiences: Řevnice also stands out for its station-side location and the building’s former use, while Kytín has an open brewhouse as part of its restaurant. Menus and beer selections may vary.
It is best to choose accommodation to suit the focus of your trip: hiking trails, castle visits, excursions to the water and brewery experiences all offer different ideas for planning your days. You can prioritise destinations and activities according to your interests, rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all itinerary.
