Pohoří: Nature, mining history and trails
Accommodation in Pohoří
Pohoří combines a nature park, mining history and trails through the landscape. The village is part of the Střed Čech Nature Park and lies in Dolní Posázaví, 11 km east of the confluence of the Sázava and Vltava rivers. The Hornopožárský les borders Pohoří to the southeast, while the Halířské gold-bearing belt lies to the southwest. These directions indicate the two edges of the landscape: forest on one side and the gold-bearing belt on the other.
Landscape and nature
Another natural feature is the Skalsko Natural Monument. It protects wetland communities with significant and specially protected plant and animal species, and is considered a typical section of the Říčany Uplands landscape. Wetland habitats are therefore the focus at Skalsko, while Pohoří’s membership in the nature park places the village in its broader landscape context. Wetland communities are habitats where plants and animals are adapted to wet conditions; this helps explain what Skalsko protects.
Mining history at the Halíře Mine
The Halíře Mine is an exploration mine dating from the mid-20th century, located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Pohoří. Its distinctive diamond-shaped cross-section defines the shape of the mine. During a visit, you can see historic mining equipment and fluorescent minerals; you can also try your hand at gold panning. The mine complex is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. An exploration mine is used for geological investigations, such as searching underground for potential deposits.
Kněží hora–Halíře Nature Trail
The Kněží hora–Halíře Nature Trail runs between the settlement of Pohoří-Chotouň and Kněží hora hill. It is moderately difficult and marked with a blue-and-white square symbol; however, the markings are not sufficient everywhere. When planning your visit, consider the difficulty and navigation separately, and check the waymarking on site.
Memorial site in Pohoří
Pohoří is also home to a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. Alongside its mining heritage, the village therefore also has a memorial commemorating the war.
Chotouň Ski Area: lifts and runs
The Chotouň Ski Area has two parallel POMA drag lifts with telescopic T-bars. They are 300 and 280 metres long, respectively, and each has a vertical drop of 50 metres. The difference in length is 20 metres; the vertical drop is the same for both. There is also a 53-metre-long conveyor belt with a 5-metre vertical drop for the youngest skiers. The gentle slopes are mainly suitable for beginners and intermediate skiers. Operations vary by season; check current conditions before your visit.
