Hradištko offers a variety of experiences for a trip: nature trails introduce the history of the area and its archaeology, while Medník offers a different perspective on the landscape, with wooded slopes and rocks. If you are considering Hradištko as a destination, you can distinguish between the routes by their themes rather than viewing them as a single trail.

Nature trails with different historical themes

The Vystěhované Hradištko nature trail runs for 8.5 kilometres through the municipality of Hradištko and includes ten information points. It is accessible year-round and suitable for hiking. The trail covers the history of the forced evacuation of the municipality during the Second World War, the SS training area and the concentration camp, as well as the fates of several prisoners. In this way, the route combines a hike with a remembrance of the area's history.

The Sekanka nature trail passes ten stops around the remains of a fortified, vanished town. The Sekanka, soutok, Ostrov a Kilián nature trail is an external part of the permanent exhibition at the Regional Museum in Jílové u Prahy. On the Sekanka–Ostrov–Kilián nature trail, ten information panels present the findings of archaeological research and virtual depictions of medieval buildings. These topics can also be explored in greater depth at the Ora et labora exhibition at the Regional Museum: it focuses on the vanished medieval settlement at Hradišťko u Davle and features 3D visualisations of the monastery at different stages of its development.

Archaeological research at Sekanka and Ostrov yielded unique insights into medieval life and became an important milestone in Czech archaeology. For planning your trip, this offers a different focus from the Vystěhované Hradištko nature trail: here, the emphasis is on archaeological findings and the history of medieval settlements, while the other trail focuses on events and individual fates during the Second World War.

Routes and river views

The Láska za okupace route leads from the centre of Hradištko through the forest to the Sázava and on to Petrov u Prahy railway station. The Posázavská Trail was created by the Club of Czech Tourists and opened in 1920. Its final section runs close to the Sázava; from the Klimentova and Raisova viewpoints, you can see the river meanders. Early tramp settlements in the Posázaví region, including Arizona and Staré kamarády, are also located along the trail. This information relates to the wider Posázaví region, not just Hradištko.

Medník and Hradištko Castle

The Medník National Nature Monument is located in the cadastral area of Hradištko pod Medníkem. The site includes wooded slopes on a hill with mining pits, as well as rocks on the left bank of the Sázava. It can be reached from the road via a walkable tourist trail. Visitors to the nature monument are advised to stay on marked paths. The Medník nature trail includes play features; below Malý Medník, there is a rest area at a viewpoint.

Hradištko Castle offers another perspective on the area's cultural history. The castle garden is surrounded by a wall with niches containing Stations of the Cross chapels. A classification updated in 2023 describes the castle as a cultural monument that is partially accessible. Check current access arrangements before visiting.
