For a stay in Slapy, you can focus on cultural history, time at the reservoir or a trail. Specific points of interest include the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, the historic Zámek Slapy complex, the recreation area by the reservoir and the “Slapák” trail. The options range from architectural history and swimming and boating to an activity of moderate difficulty. Which one shapes your stay depends on whether you are more interested in architectural history, time on the water or the trail.

Reservoir and boat trips

The Slapy Reservoir is a recreation area with swimming spots, beaches, viewpoints and boat trips. These options offer different ways to spend your time: swimming and beaches mean time by the water, viewpoints offer a view from a particular spot, and boat trips are about the journey itself. When planning your day, you can decide whether you would rather stay by the water, visit a viewpoint or head out onto the water.

A daily boat service departs from the Slapská přehrada station, stops at nine other stations and ends in Nová Živohošť. The journey takes an average of one hour. As the service is seasonal, check the timetable before travelling.

Church of Saints Peter and Paul

The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was rebuilt and consecrated in 1693, then fully restored in 1912. Its architecture combines an elongated, octagonal nave with an octagonal mortuary chapel, also aligned with the church’s axis. The building’s shape and layout give it a distinctive architectural character, setting it apart from the history of the other sights.

The church can be visited 30 minutes before and after a service; guided tours are available by telephone appointment. If you are planning a visit, bear this time window in mind. A telephone appointment is part of the planning for a guided tour.

Zámek Slapy and its architectural history

Zámek Slapy lies on the southern edge of the municipality of Slapy and is now a protected cultural monument. The historic site brings together layers dating from the medieval period to the 20th century. The complex includes a Neo-Baroque main building from the 1930s and Baroque outbuildings from the 18th century. The site’s history therefore spans a long period, while its individual buildings represent distinct phases of construction.

Letovisko Slapy and the trail park

The development of the Letovisko Slapy recreation area is also part of the area’s history. As part of the project, roads, a water and electricity supply, a forest swimming pool and a restaurant were established. Several model cottages and villas were built as early as 1935. Infrastructure, leisure facilities and residential buildings represent different aspects of this historical development and add another theme alongside the religious and protected historic buildings.

The Slapy trail park offers a different focus. Its “Slapák” trail is of moderate difficulty and was introduced in 2022. Alongside architectural and local history and activities at the reservoir, it adds a trail with a specifically stated difficulty level. When planning your trip, you can consider these topics separately: architecture and history, time on the water or the trail each offer a distinct focus.
