Church, Chapels and Local History
The first written mention of Únětice as a village with a church dates to 1125. After 1770, a new church, a rectory and a farmstead were built in Únětice. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was newly built and consecrated on 17 August 1783.
In the historic center of the village, east of the church, stands Tereziánský špejchar, a granary dating from 1752. The Baroque Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk dates from 1716 and lies west of the center; in front of it stands a column with a statue of the saint from 1699. The cemetery Chapel of St. Joseph is an immovable cultural monument. Its ground plan is pentagonal on the outside and decagonal on the inside.
Archaeological Heritage
Between 1870 and 1882, physician Čeněk Rýzner discovered and investigated an Early Bronze Age burial ground in Únětice. Rýzner investigated the burial ground in 1879; it consisted of four groups of graves. The protected burial ground, after which the Únětice culture of the Early Bronze Age is named, lies at the boundary of the cadastral areas of Únětice, Roztoky and Žalov. The history of the village can also be explored through the region’s archaeological significance.
