Pikovice is an obvious starting point for the Posázavská Trail. The Sázava landscape, distinctive natural features and an annual September event are also highlights. These themes offer different ways to plan your stay: you can focus on the route, nature watching, rock formations or the country festival.

Nature and landscape

Medník is a protected regional biocentre and has been a National Natural Monument since 1933. It is considered the only site in Czechia where the dog’s-tooth violet, Kandík psí zub, is found. This botanical distinction gives nature enthusiasts a specific point of interest. When observing nature, take care not to collect or disturb protected plants.

Pikovická jehla is a distinctive, highly visible, tower-shaped rock with a cross on its summit. It lies on the right bank of the Sázava, below the railway line. Its valley-facing wall is 45 m high, and it also has a short upper north face.

Medník and Pikovická jehla represent different aspects of nature: Medník is notable for its protected status and plant habitat, while the Jehla is notable for its rock formation, riverside location and cliff height.

Spruce forests predominate in the deeply incised Sázava valley near Pikovice, with fir, oak and scree forests also found in places. The name “Zlatý kaňon” (“Golden Canyon”) also refers to a specific stretch of the Sázava: it runs between Pikovice and Žampach. Tramp and writer Bob Hurikán coined the name, inspired by the area’s scenic beauty.

Hiking and memorial sites

The Posázavská Trail is marked 0001 and follows the Sázava from Pikovice to Kamenný Přívoz. Trail conditions can change, so check the latest information along the route before setting out.

The names refer to two different things: the Posázavská Trail is the hiking route marked 0001, ending at Kamenný Přívoz; “Zlatý kaňon” is the name of the stretch of the Sázava between Pikovice and Žampach.

At the “Dvě pamětní desky v Pikovicích” memorial site, two plaques are set into the rock. They are located on the red-marked trail at the start of the Posázavská stezka.

September event and practical information

Every September, a country festival is held at the riverside campsite in Pikovice, commemorating the area’s rich tramp history. The festival can be a specific reason to visit in September. The event dates and programme vary, so check the exact dates if the festival is a deciding factor for your trip.

Pikovický přístav is associated with refreshments in Pikovice. Opening hours may vary, so check them before making a special trip. Tábořiště Pikovice is also associated with the area. Check its current operation in advance if you are relying on specific facilities at this campsite. Their functions differ: Pikovický přístav is associated with refreshments, while Tábořiště Pikovice is associated with a campsite.
