The Uckermark combines experiences in nature with cultural destinations. When planning your trip, you can focus on different highlights: the landscape of the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park, trails on foot or on the water, attractions in the Lower Oder Valley National Park, and cultural sites such as the Gramzow Railway Museum. Which of these sides of the region you would like to discover more closely may also influence your choice of destination within the Uckermark.

A landscape of lakes and moors

The Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park lies amid the Uckermark’s many waters and gently rolling landscape. Its features include numerous clear-water lakes, kettle holes and moors. The landscape encompasses terminal moraine ridges and hilly ground moraines, as well as drumlins, ramparts, inland dunes, channel lakes and flowing moors. This means a variety of landscape and water features take centre stage in a compact area.

Lakes and smaller bodies of water also define the Uckermark as a whole: the region has more than 500 lakes, as well as thousands of small ponds, kettle holes, moors, streams and rivers. The Uckermark region extends beyond the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park.

Hiking trails and longer routes

The nature park has more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails. The Uckermark as a whole has 1,200 kilometres of designated hiking trails.

One longer route through the region is the Märkischer Landweg. It runs for 217 kilometres over ten stages, crossing the Uckermark and passing through three National Natural Landscapes.

Water-based experiences on the eastern edge

The Lower Oder Valley National Park lies on the eastern edge of the Uckermark and is directly connected to the Oder River and neighbouring Poland. There, visitors can explore the waterways on several routes through the Oder’s narrow old river channels, accompanied by certified canoe guides. Depending on the activity, the stated seasons run from May or July through November. If a canoe trip is part of your plans, check in advance which season applies to your chosen route.

Museums, a castle park and events

In Gramzow, the Railway Museum displays historic railway vehicles from different periods. Its exhibitions cover topics such as track construction, workshop operations, and railway operations and transport services; technical equipment can be seen outdoors and inside buildings. On operating days, the museum railway offers rides on historic railway vehicles and the chance to drive rail trolleys. Gramzow thus combines exhibition themes with special railway-related activities.

Also in Gramzow, the listed granary is now an art venue for photography, language, literature and concerts. In Boitzenburg, Boitzenburg Castle is considered the largest Brandenburg castle complex outside the royal castles of Potsdam; it is surrounded by a Lenné park. In Prenzlau, the Museum of Cultural History at the Dominican monastery presents an extensive collection of medieval objects, including sacred sculptures, archaeological finds from Seehausen Monastery and objects relating to legal history.

Recurring events can also shape a trip: the Rafting Festival in Lychen is held every year on the Oberpfuhl promenade. Both days feature an entertainment programme and hands-on activities for children and adults. This allows you to weigh nature, culture and a special occasion as different interests for a trip to the Uckermark.
