Lychen can be explored through several specific themes: its rafting history, activities on the water, and cycling and hiking options. Lychen has been allowed to call itself a rafting town since 2008; the craft of rafting has been part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2023. If you are looking for a hotel in Lychen, your planned activities can be a useful starting point: Would you like to learn more about rafting, explore by bicycle or spend time on the water?

Rafting Tradition and the Pinnenpfad Trail

The rafting festival draws on local tradition: in the Uckermark, it takes place every year on the Oberpfuhl promenade in Lychen. Both days include an entertainment program and hands-on activities for children and adults. If you are planning your trip around the festival, check the exact event dates before making plans.

The Pinnenpfad Lychen trail also offers a way to explore the area and its history. Information is provided at the pins, and an overview map complements the trail stops. A QR code links to an audio guide in German and English. When learning about the area, you can choose between information at the pins, the map and the audio guide.

Take a Raft Trip or Transfer Your Boat

Treibholz offers public raft trips aboard the tourist raft “Pläätz.” You can join without booking in advance. Check before your trip whether the trips are currently running.

Lychen’s “Rollfeld,” by contrast, is a wooden jetty with a roller system that allows waterway travelers to transfer their boats between Nesselpfuhl and Oberpfuhl. These are two different activities to consider when planning: a public raft trip and transferring a boat between the two bodies of water.

Circular Routes and Longer Trails

Cyclists can take circular routes of 10 to 35 kilometers in Lychen. The 217-kilometer Märkischer Landweg trail passes directly by Lychen. These offer different scales for route planning: the stated range of circular routes and the route of a much longer trail. If you are planning your trip around activities, you can first consider whether a circular route or access to the Märkischer Landweg is more important for your stay.

Getting Your Bearings in Town

Lychen Markt is the central bus stop. From there, you can reach places including the tourist information office, the Rafting Museum, and water and hiking trails. If you plan to use bus services to get there or to plan your local travel, check the current timetables separately.

The Uckermark Region

The Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park lies within the wider destination of the Uckermark, amid a landscape rich in water and gently rolling hills. It includes many clear-water lakes, kettle holes and moors. The nature park offers more than 150 kilometers of water trails and over 600 kilometers of signposted hiking trails.
