Carmzow-Wallmow: Lakes, Village History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Carmzow-Wallmow
Carmzow-Wallmow brings together a lake landscape shaped by the Ice Age, traces of local history and cycling routes. When planning your stay, the specific places offer different points of interest: a lake with a designated bathing area, a historic village church and routes that vary considerably in length.
Lakes and an Ice Age landscape
The “Kleinseen bei Carmzow” FFH area covers around 76 hectares. The lakes in the area were formed from dead-ice blocks dating to the Weichselian glaciation in the young moraine landscape of northeastern Brandenburg. Their origins are therefore closely linked to the landscape whose name is also reflected in the name of the protected area.
The 17-hectare Brökersee lies northwest of Carmzow. Extensive belts of reeds and cattails shape most of its shores. There is an official bathing area on the southern shore, as well as several jetties. Check local access conditions before visiting. The 15-hectare Ganznowsee lies east of Carmzow. The two lakes can therefore be distinguished by their location and size; a bathing area is also specifically designated at Brökersee.
Local history and the village church
Wallmow is first mentioned in a document dated January 13, 1283. Carmzow is home to an early Gothic fieldstone church dating from around 1250. Inside is a Baroque pulpit altar from 1724. The information about the church reveals two distinct periods of construction: the early church building and the altar, which was added several centuries later. Those interested in architectural history will find both a medieval building and a clearly dated Baroque furnishing here.
Cycling routes of different lengths
The 16-kilometer Spinnradweg runs through Wallmow’s rural landscape, following shady avenues lined with hedges. The route description thus combines a specific distance with an impression of how it winds through the landscape. The approximately 99-kilometer Gutsherrenradtour passes through Wallmow and Carmzow and connects with regional and long-distance cycling routes. Comparing the two routes, one is 16 kilometers long while the other is considerably longer. The Gutsherrenradtour is also explicitly linked to other cycling routes; its stated distance is approximate.
The Uckermark as a wider travel destination
Beyond Carmzow-Wallmow, the Uckermark can be considered as a wider regional setting. It has more than 500 lakes; regional activities and facilities include guided canoe tours, designated natural bathing areas, bivouac sites and water trails. The figures for routes also refer to the region: the Uckermark has 1,200 kilometers of designated hiking trails and more than 1,600 kilometers of cycling routes.
The Uckermark Lakes Nature Park is part of this wider natural landscape. It lies amid the Uckermark’s many waterways and gently rolling terrain and includes clear-water lakes, kettle holes and bogs. This regional perspective complements the specific local points of interest: in Carmzow-Wallmow, the focus is on Brökersee, Ganznowsee, the village church and the cycling routes mentioned above; the larger figures for hiking and cycling trails, as well as the water-trail offering, describe the Uckermark.
