The village church and the Manor House Cycling Tour are two specific points of interest for a stay in Göritz: the church represents the area’s architectural history, while the route passes through the village. Göritz lies on the B 109 between Prenzlau and Pasewalk.

Göritz Village Church: Architecture and History

Göritz Village Church is an old fortified church on a rise in the cemetery. The rectangular fieldstone building dates to the Early Gothic period and is dated to around 1200 to 1250; it has a west tower. Narrow Gothic windows and doors add to its architectural features. Its floor plan, materials and openings give the building a distinct architectural character.

The tower structure was built in 1690; the tower contains two bells, the oldest of which dates from 1452. The church underwent extensive renovations in 1992 and from 2004 to 2006, including interior painting. The distinction between the dates is important: the approximate date of around 1200 to 1250 applies to the Early Gothic building, while 1690 refers to the tower structure. The renovation phases belong to the more recent history of the building.

Explore Göritz on the Manor House Cycling Tour

The Manor House Cycling Tour passes through Göritz and connects with regional and long-distance cycling routes. On the Göritz section, the route mainly uses small side roads, well-maintained country roads and cobblestone streets. This variety of surfaces is a practical point of reference when planning your route: the section cannot be described as having just one type of road. Take the different surfaces into account when planning your stage.

Along the tour, information boards explain the history of individual manor houses. This gives the route a regional-history theme in addition to cycling. Göritz is also one of the tour’s food and drink stops. Opening days and seasonal hours may change; check the times in advance if you plan to stop for a meal.

The Uckermark as a Travel Region

The Uckermark offers a broader perspective on its landscapes and culture. The Uckermark Lakes Nature Park lies amid the Uckermark’s many lakes and gently rolling hills, and includes numerous clear-water lakes, kettle holes and moors. The nature park has more than 150 kilometres of water trails and over 600 kilometres of signposted hiking trails. Water routes and walking trails offer different focuses when planning a trip. The Märkischer Landweg is a clearly structured route divided into stages: over 217 kilometres, it crosses the Uckermark in ten stages and passes through three National Natural Landscapes.

The Gramzow Railway Museum offers another cultural perspective within the wider Uckermark travel destination. It displays historic railway vehicles from different periods, along with exhibitions on track construction, workshop operations, railway operations and transport services. Technical equipment can be seen outdoors and inside the buildings. On operating days, the museum railway offers rides on historic railway vehicles and the chance to drive rail trolleys yourself.
